Prime Video set its series adaptation of A League of Their Own for an Aug. 12 premiere. You can also watch a quick teaser for the series, set to Stevie Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen," below.
From Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television, this version of A League of Their Own is an intentionally wider story than Penny Marshall's 1992 feature film of the same name. That film has a Metascore of 69. This A League of Their Own endeavors to invoke the same spirit as the original but tell the tale of an entire generation of women who dreamed of someday playing professional baseball. It will explore women from different backgrounds and ethnicities, as well as sexual identities, following brand new characters as they try to make it on the field and in their personal lives.
All eight episodes will stream at once on Aug. 12.
Jacobson and Will Graham co-created the series and executive produce alongside Field Trip's Hailey Wierengo and Desta Tedros Reff, and Jamie Babbit, who also directed the pilot. The show is based on the motion picture screenplay by Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel and based on a story by Kim Wilson and Kelly Candaele.
Previously, A League of Their Own was turned into a half-hour sitcom the year after the film was released. It only has a Metascore of 34.
