Netflix released a teaser and a special preview clip from its upcoming anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners via the streamer's Geeked Week virtual event. Watch those below.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a spin-off of Cyberpunk 2077, but it features a new protagonist: The 10-episode story follows a street kid in a dystopian futuristic society that is equally obsessed with technology and body modification. He thinks his best chance at survival is to become a titular edgerunner (also known as a cyberpunk), which is a mercenary outlaw, and the show will follow his journey to do so.
Needless to say, because of that, both the teaser and the clip are action-packed, with lots of blood, guns, explosions, and Akira Yamaoka's score, but no dialogue.
The show, which is set to premiere in September, comes from game development studio CD PROJEKT RED and Japanese-based animation company Studio Trigger, which is also behind the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 is highest rated on PC, with a Metascore of 92 on that platform, but it is also available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. An expansion is rumored to be coming for the game soon as well.
Hiroyuki Imaishi directs the series, while Yoh Yoshinari serves as chief character designer as well as executive animation director, and Masahiko Otsuka and Yoshiki Usa serve as writers based on the story provided by CD PROJEKT RED.
