Gaten Matarazzo and Angourie Rice in 'Honor Society
Paramount+Honor (Angourie Rice) has spent four years shaping her life to be exactly what an Ivy League college would want in a prospective student, but now she's going to be thrown off course by a crush, who also happens to be her biggest competition. Watch a trailer for Paramount+'s new movie Honor Society ahead of its July 29 premiere, below.
Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo plays Honor's competition-turned-crush Michael, while Christopher Mintz-Plasse plays Mr. Calvin, the school's guidance counselor from whom both students are seeking coveted recommendations. He, on the other hand, has actually narrowed down the selection of who he will recommend to a top four, also including Travis (Armani Jackson) and Kennedy (Amy Keum).
In order to go the extra mile to get that recommendation, Honor concocts a "Machiavellian plan" (per Paramount+) to take down those other three — but mostly Michael.
Honor sees Michael has the only real threat and decides she needs to get him to fail his midterms — by flirting with him, or, as she puts it, to "throw the nerd off."
But matters of the heart make things more complicated, as they are known to do, and what starts as a scheme turns real for her. Suddenly, she says she doesn't want to hurt him. But the clock is quickly winding down on high school in general, let alone the deadline for the recommendation, so she will have to battle herself to determine if achieving what she has always wanted is worth it if it's really by any means necessary.
The film is directed by Oran Zegman from screenplay by David A. Goodman. The film is produced by Michael Lewen and executive produced by Ron French and Don Dunn.
