The next in The Addams Family franchise is a new series centered on teenage daughter Wednesday coming to Netflix and the streamer just released some first-look footage of Jenna Ortega as the beloved character, which you can watch below.
In a less-than 30-second teaser, which was dropped during the annual Geeked Week virtual event, Ortega walks into frame as the titular character in what the streamer calls a "sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery." She is also joined by Thing. There is no dialogue, but there is the iconic snapping.
Wednesday is 16, a student at Nevermore Academy, and trying to master the psychic ability that is only just starting to emerge from within her. Oh yeah, and being threatened by a monstrous killing spree and trying to solve a murder mystery her parents were caught up in 25 years earlier. You know, typical supernatural teen stuff.
Wednesday also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Georgie Farmer, Naomi Ogawa, and Moosa Mostafa.
The show comes from showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar, director and executive producer Tim Burton, and executive producers Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman for 1.21, Kevin Miserocchi, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman for Glickmania, and Gail Berman. Gandja Monteiro and James Marshall also direct.
The Addams Family originated as a cartoon, but went on to be adapted into everything from feature films and animation to a musical and video games. The first television series based on the source material premiered in 1964 and was simply titled The Addams Family. A 1973 and 1992 version were each also titled The Addams Family, but in 1998 there was a slight revamp for the sitcom The New Addams Family.
