Disney+/YouTubeThe next Marvel Studios series to hit Disney+ will be Ms. Marvel, premiering June 8. Get a first look in a new trailer, below.
Ms. Marvel follows Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), a Muslim-American teenager who is growing up in New Jersey when she discovers she has powers. Known as an avid gamer and fan-fiction writer, Kamala clearly has a big imagination (especially around her favorite superhero, Captain Marvel), which you can see from the thought bubbles and fantasy sequences in the trailer, but she's not imagining what's happening to her.
"Maybe they're right: I'm spending too much time in fantasy land," Kamala says in the trailer. "It's not really the brown girls from Jersey City who save the world."
Until now.
Kamala's life doesn't magically get better with the powers that turn her into the titular superhero - her feelings of not fitting in at school or even at home don't just disappear with her newfound abilities and therefore responsibilities. So, now she has to learn to balance everything while finding her place in the world and adjusting to what she can do and why it matters that she do it.
Ms. Marvel also stars Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Travina Springer and Nimra Bucha. Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Bisha K. Ali executive produce, with Ali also serving as head writer. Sana Amanat and Trevor Waterson serve as co-executive producers. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy direct the episodes in the first season.
