Blasted is a Norwegian sci-fi comedy that stars Axel Bøyum and Fredrik Skogsrud as childhood best friends Sebastian and Mikkel, respectively. They bonded over their love of games as younger men, but now Sebastian has turned into a career-obsessed workaholic and traditional adult who is getting married. The two are reunited for his bachelor party, at which Mikkel cares more about trying to win over a potential client than truly kicking back and letting loose. However, they plan a fun paintball game to semi-tap back into their days of laser tag. (Mikkel has never really moved past his teenage laser tag-prodigy lifestyle.) And when they do, they stumble into "a full-on alien invasion" that requires them both to slip into old dynamics and habits to use their laser tag skills to fight back.
"Let's take in that we're sitting in a police car about to shoot aliens with laser guns," Mikkel says to Sebastian in the trailer.
And no, the paintball to laser tag switch is not a mistake, lost in translation from the original language to English. They actually quickly realize that laser guns kill the aliens (specifically making them explode glowing goo all over whoever is standing in front of them.)
The film, which comes from director Martin Sofiedal and screenwriter Emanuel Nordrum, also stars Mathias Luppichini, André Sørum, Eirik Hallert, Evelyn Rasmussen Osazuwa, and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal. Are Heidenstrøm at Miso Film serves as producer, while Miso Film's Peter Bose and Jonas Allen executive produce.
