The world needs a new hero, and who better than a dog? Specifically a hound named Hank (voiced by Michael Cera) in the upcoming animated action feature Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank.

Dogs and cats have been said not to get along, but this time, a village of felines is going to have to rely on one very special canine.

Although he is down on his luck and finding himself on his own, Hank finds a new purpose for himself because the cats need someone to step in to stop a ruthless villain (voiced by Ricky Gervais) from wiping their village off the map. Hank enters training to become a samurai to do so — yes, complete with montage! — with a knowledgeable but reluctant teacher (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) so he can save the day.

Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank also features the voices of Mel Brooks, George Takei, Aasif Mandvi, Gabriel Iglesias, Djimon Hounsou, Michelle Yeoh, Kylie Kuioka, and Cathy Shim. It is directed by Rob Minkoff, Mark Koetsier, and Chris Bailey from a screenplay by Ed Stone & Nate Hopper, and Brooks, Norman Steinberg, Andrew Bergman, Richard Pryor, and Alan Uger, Bergman also contributed the story.

Rob Minkoff, Adam Nagle, Peter Nagle, Guy Collins, Yair Landau, and Susan Purcell serve as producers, while Adrian Politowski, Alex Schwartz, Ben White, Reginald Hudlin, Wang Zhongjun, Wang Zhonglei, and Brooks serve as executive producers. The film hails from Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon Movies, Align, and Aniventure, in association with HB Wink Animation and GFM Animation, A Flying Tigers Entertainment Production and Cinesite.

It opens in theaters on July 15.
