It's a great year to be an animated animal, specifically a feline. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is hitting theaters on Dec. 22 and DreamWorks Animation just released a new trailer for the film. Watch that below.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is part of the Shrek universe, following the eponymous daring outlaw (voiced by Antonio Banderas) as he embarks upon an epic journey into the Black Forest to find the mythical Wishing Star. This will allow him to restore his lost lives, and he only has one left, so it's a life-or-death mission. Having only one life left means he also has to ask for help from his former partner and also nemesis Kitty Soft Paws (Salma Hayek).

Puss and Kitty will end up working with a relentlessly cheerful (and chatty) dog named Perro (Harvey Guillén), and together, the trio will have to stay ahead of several villains, from Goldilocks (Florence Pugh) and the Three Bears Crime Family, to Big Jack Horner (John Mulaney), and of course The Big Bad Wolf (Wagner Moura).

The all-star voice cast also includes Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone, Samson Kayo, Anthony Mendez, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph.

The animated adventure comedy is directed by Joel Crawford, produced by Mark Swift, and executive produced by Chris Meledandri.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is the sequel to 2011's Puss in Boots, which has a Metascore of 65. The eponymous character not only appeared in the Shrek films and his own spin-off film, but he also popped up in multiple DreamWorks Animation videos, TV shows, and video games.
