Watch Javon 'Wanna' Walton pull 'Samaritan' out of retirement.
Sylvester Stallone in 'Samaritan'
Prime VideoThey said he was dead, but really he was just living a quiet life — until crime in his city rises and he witnesses a teenage boy being beaten by a group of older kids. Suddenly, Samaritan steps back out of the shadows to become a vigilante once again.
In the official trailer for the MGM and Balboa production from director Julius Avery — which you can watch below — Sylvester Stallone plays Samaritan, the titular character in the film streaming Aug. 26 on Prime Video. Javon "Wanna" Walton is Sam Cleary, the teenager who realizes his mysterious neighbor known as Mr. Smith is really the super-powered legend.
And it isn't just how he handles the bullies; the so-called Mr. Smith gets hit by a car right in front of Sam, and snaps back right in front of him, too.
Two and a half decades earlier, Samaritan was reported to have died after a fiery warehouse battle with his nemesis, but Sam always kept hope that he was still alive. Now, Sam makes it his mission to bring his neighbor out of retirement more permanently in order to really save their city.
But it won't be easy because, as Samaritan says it himself, "You start to fall apart when you stop caring. And I stopped caring a long time ago."
The screenplay for Samaritan was written by Bragi F. Schut. Stallone and Braden Aftergood serve as producers, while Schut, David Kern, Adam Rosenberg, and Guy Riedel serve as executive producers. Other cast members include Pilou Asbæk, Dascha Polanco, Martin Starr, and Moises Arias.
