It may not yet be Halloween, but it's never too early to get into the winter holiday spirit! Usually we'd say just ask Mariah Carey, but today, just ask Apple Original Films, which released the teaser for its upcoming Christmas musical comedy Spirited.
Spirited is a take on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol but from a new perspective, in that it follows the Ghost of Christmas Present (played by Will Ferrell) who selects one "dark soul" to be reformed by a visit from three spirits on Christmas Eve. Most audiences already know how things turn out (and they turn out well) when he visits Ebeneezer Scrooge, but Clint Briggs (Ryan Reynolds) is going to give him a run for his money.
Clint has a way to turn the tables on the ghost, until he ends up examining his own past, present, and future. And in this world, Clint also has the upper hand because the story of Ebenezer and Tiny Tim is one everyone knows, and thus, Clint knows about this ghost's first (and arguably most important) "save."
Spirited comes from director Sean Anders, who also wrote the script with John Morris. It also stars Octavia Spencer, Sunita Mani, Patrick Page, Joe Tippett, Marlow Barkley, and Jen Tullock. The original songs in the film are from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and choreography is by Chloe Arnold.
The trailer offers a glimpse of tap choreography performed by Ferrell and Reynolds, or at least their digital renderings.
The film is produced by Anders and Morrs via Two Grown Men, David Koplan, George Dewey through Maximum Effort Productions, and Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum through Gloria Sanchez Productions. Diana Pokorny, Pasek, and Paul serve as executive producers.
The film premieres Nov. 18 on Apple TV+. Watch the teaser below.
