Andrew Garfield in 'Under the Banner of Heaven'
FXAndrew Garfield stars as a mormon detective in Under the Banner of Heaven, and you can get a first glimpse at his new role and that adaptation in a trailer, below.
Adapted from Jon Krakauer's best-selling true-crime book of the same title, Under the Banner of Heaven investigates the 1984 murder of Brenda Wright Lafferty (played here by Daisy Edgar-Jones) and her baby daughter in a suburb of Salt Lake City. Detective Jeb Pyre (Garfield) gets the call about the deaths and sets out to find the criminal responsible, not realizing it is going to test his faith and loyalty to others within his religion.
"The evidence points to things and beliefs that I've only ever heard whisperings about," Det. Pyre says in the trailer. "What if this case isn't just a husband who turned against his wife? What if this case is just the first edge of a bone finally working its way out of our own desert's floor. This goes beyond just a murder. Beyond everything I believe."
The seven-episode limited series also stars Sam Worthington, Denise Gough, Wyatt Russell, Billy Howle, Gil Birmingham, Adelaide Clemens, Rory Culkin, Seth Numrich, Chloe Pirrie and Sandra Seacat.
The show comes from creator and showrunner Dustin Lance Black. Other executive producers are Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Anna Culp for Imagine Television; Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan of Aggregate Films; David Mackenzie and Gillian Berrie. It is produced by FX Productions.
Under the Banner of Heaven premieres with its first two episodes April 28 on Hulu, followed by an additional new episode weekly up to and including the finale on June 2.
