Ainsley Harriott

Biography: At 16 trained at Westminster Catering collage before starting a career in London's top hotels and restaurants, moving from junior trainee to commis chef, before becoming Chef Tournant at The Strand Palace. He set up his own catering company catering for every level of cuisine - he was even booked for people like Elton John and Princess Margaret.

Cooking is not Ainsley's only passion. He also enjoys comedy and singing, and formed the Calypso Twins with Paul Boross, releasing a record and performing on radio, TV, and the London comedy circuit. His first TV appearance was on cult TV hit Red Dwarf in 1993. He returned to catering however, and it was in the early 1990s working as Head Chef of the Long Room at Lord's Cricket Ground that the BBC asked him to present More Nosh, Less Dosh on BBC Radio 5. After the introduction of Ready Steady Cook in 1994 he was a regular guest chef. He also had some of his own TV series' including Can't Cook Won't Cook and Ainsley's Meals in Minutes. In 2000 he become the host of Ready Steady Cook and the show took on a new lease of life. Over his career he as appeared in, and been the star of countless TV series and shows. He has also been in some advertisements, including Fairy Washing Up Liquid.

Ainsley is also a best-selling author, selling over one and a half million books across the globe.

In both his TV appearances and his writing he passes across his love of cooking, and his enthusiasm for making it fun. It reflects his lifelong passion in food, due to his mum Peppy encouraging him to cook for friends and family.
