Bob Prince (II)

Biography: Bob Prince was the voice of the Pittsburgh Pirates for 28 years. He eared the name “The Gunner” due to his quick barking comments. His renaming of players and extreme loyalty to the Pittsburgh team was a major influence on other area sports announcers Myron Cope (Steelers) and Mike Lange (Penguins). As a result, Pittsburgh sports fans don’t want or expect their sports play by play men to be “unbiased”, but expect the announcers to show they support the teams as much as the fans. In return, the local fans are as loyal to the announcers as they are to their teams. When Prince was fired in 1975 Pittsburgh held a parade in his honor.
