Cathleen Nesbitt

Biography: Considered a great beauty as a young woman, Cathleen Nesbitt had to wait until she was past 60 before her best-known acting roles arrived. She was once engaged to the poet Rupert Brooke, who died in the First World War. Well-known in the theatre on both sides of the Atlantic, she made a considerable impression in the film "So Long At The Fair" in 1950, playing a sinister hotel-keeper, and for the rest of the decade was very busy in America, doing much TV and playing the mother, grandmother or aunt of a great many Hollywood leading men - Cary Grant's in "An Affair To Remember", Marlon Brando's in "Desiree" and, on Broadway, Rex Harrison's in "My Fair Lady" (a role she reprised in her nineties).
