Denise Quiñones

Biography: Denise Marie Quiñones August was born in September 9, 1980. She attended the University for three years at the University of Puerto Rico as a journalism student. Denise was the fourth Puerto Rican to be graced with the Miss Universe title in 2001. Denise won the Miss Universe pageant in her own country Puerto Rico. She won, over Greek supermodel Evelina Papantoniou. She's the first person to win a pageant hosted in her representative country, aside from the United States. It was at Miss Universe pageant's 50th anniversary that the victory came. Quiñones lived in New York City for a year, in the Donald Trump apartment for the winner. She volunteered with organizations such as God's Love We Deliver and helping fight against AIDS and HIV. As the winner, she received: 5 years of make-up and hair care for free, wardrobe, car, a $60,000 scholarship to a New York City film school, professional representation by the Miss Universe Organization, and traveling opportunities. Since the pageant, Quiñones attended the School for Film and Television's two-year Conservatory Acting Program. As an actress, Denise starred in Nilo Cruz's play Ana en el trópico. For that role she was nominated and awarded an ACE and Hola Awards. In October 2005 she took the role of "Doña Rosita", in the Federico Garcia Lorca´s play Doña Rosita the Spinster and also a nomination for another ACE awards for her role in this play.
Most recently, Denise starred on the hit WB series Smallville as Andrea Rojas a vigilante who saves people from suicide in Metropolis. She was also cast in the WB show The Bedford Diaries as Mia Thorne. Also she was cast in the role of Rachel Starling, a young fighter pilot in the pilot for the Aquaman based TV series Mercy Reef which was in development for the new CW network. The pilot may take off as a midseason replacement at The CW.

Denise also appears in the ABC series Freddie as herself for about four episodes. Musically, she continues to work on her debut pop album. Quiñones has been recently been romantically linked to René Pérez, also known as Residente Calle 13 a Puerto Rican hip hop reggeatonero.

Denise continues to make Puerto Rican women very proud.
