Matthew Waterhouse

Biography: Matthew Waterhouse is best known for his role as Adric, one of Doctor Who's companions in the long-running science-fiction series of the same name, in which he appeared as a regular character between 1980 and 1982.

Born in Haywards Heath in West Sussex, Matthew was educated at Shoreham Grammar School and- on leaving- pursued an acting career, encouraged to do so by his older brother. He joined the BBC as a clerk, working in the news and information department, whilst also pursuing his acting career. In 1980, he appeared as the schoolboy Briarley in the 1980 BBC2 adaptation of R.F. Delderfield's To Serve Them All My Days. After this, he auditioned for and won the role of Adric. After leaving Doctor Who, Matthew appeared in a minor role in a science-fiction film called The Killing Edge directed by Lindsay Shortoff. In 1996, he filmed the pilot episode of a show entitled Ghostlands opposite Sylvester McCoy and Jacqueline Pearce. Matthew has worked extensively in the

Matthew has worked extensively in the theatre, playing Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Edmund in a stage adaptation of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe and taking roles in Peter Pan, Torch Song Trilogy and Brighton Beach Memoirs amongst others. He has also starred in a one-man show of The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn which he adapted from Mark Twain's source novel.
