Biography: Moe Howard was born June 19, 1897 in Bensonhurst, New York. Never enjoying school and often skipping classes, his parents enrolled him at Baron DeHirsch Trade School in New York, where he took a class in electric shop.In 1909, Moe began employment as an errand boy for Vitagraph Studios in Brooklyn, New York. Recognizing his talent, the filmmakers soon put on the silver screen. Unfortunately, Moe's early performances were lost in a 1910 fire at the studio.Moe entered the world of Vaudeville in 1922 with his brother, Shemp, and childhood friend, Ted Healey. Larry Fine soon joined the team. Within a few years of moderate success, Moe's younger brother, Jerome (aka Curly), came aboard, following the departure of Ted and Shemp.The trio soon became international stars. Their brand of slapstick humor has endured for decades after their deaths.Moe died of lung cancer May 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California. He is interned at Hillside Memorial Park, Culver City, California.
