He graduated from Yale in 1977 after majoring in Economics. Studied at the prestigious Actor's Studio (which he is also a member of) before building up a substantial theatrical reputation on and off Broadway, including 12 years with the Theatre Company of Boston, appearances in David Rabe's The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel with Al Pacino and in David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross.
His first film was the not-so-popular tank 'Howard the Duck', but Paul has since become one of the industries leading character actors specializing in shady lawyers, crooked cops and gangsters.
Among his many films include, 'Final Analysis' 1992, 'Striptease' 1996, 'L.A Confidential' 1997, 'Air Force One' 1997, 'Primary Colours' 1998, 'The Negotiator' 1998, and most recently 'Session 9' 2001. He is currently a regular cast member of the hit CBS series 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation' where he plays Captain Jim Brass.
Paul is also a longtime resident of New York.
