Richard Quine

Biography: A child performer in vaudeville and radio by the late '20s, Quine began acting in films in the early '30s, with such credits as William Wyler's Counselor-At-Large, Christy Cabanne's Jane Eyre, and the Busby Berkeley musical Dames; his '40s appearances include Berkeley's Babes on Broadway and For Me and My Gal, the Rosalind Russell comedy My Sister Eileen, and the war drama We've Never Been Licked. Quine debuted as a director in 1948, co-helming Leather Gloves with William Asher. Over the next three decades Quine directed numerous films, specializing in comedy. He helmed the musical version of My Sister Eileen in 1955; its star was Jack Lemmon with whom Quine would go on to make Operation Mad Ball, Bell, Book and Candle, It Happened to Jane, The Notorious Landlady, and How to Murder Your Wife.
