Shauna Macdonald (II)

Biography: A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Shauna MacDonald is a film and television actress most known for her roles on the BBC action drama Spooks and in the 2005 thriller The Descent. Although born in Malaysia, where his father used to teach English, Shauna and her family moved back to Edinburgh, Scotland when she was a baby. She was raised in Edinburgh and attended the Royal Scottish Academy for Music and Drama in Glasgow.

Shauna began her acting career in the 1999 thriller The Debt Collector and followed it up with the 2000 drama Daybreak. During her second year at drama college, Shauna took a term out to do the film The Rocket Post with fellow Scottish actor Kevin McKidd and Danish star Ulrich Thomsen. In an interview, she admitted to having learned more from her experience on doing that film, which won the Stony Brook Film Festival Grand Prize in 2004, than the things she did while at the Academy. In 2003, Macdonald played Sonia Baker, the young researcher for MP Stephen Collins (played by David Morrissey), on the British political thriller, State of Play, a six-part series which also featured James McAvoy and Bill Nighy. She then landed the role of her career as she portrayed MI5 Admin Officer Sam Buxton on Spooks until her character was transferred to GCHQ at the end of the 3rd season. After her stint with the British intelligence agency, Shauna appeared in several films, most notable of which is The Descent (2005), where she played Sarah, one of the women who embarked in a treacherous caving expedition.
