30 Best Movie Remakes (and Reboots) of the Past 30 Years

Hollywood may be in love with remakes, but critics don't usually share those warm feelings. Nevertheless, revisiting an old property can sometimes prove fruitful, and not just commercially. In the gallery above, you'll find the best-reviewed remakes and franchise reboots of the past three decades, ranked by Metascore. (Note that a movie must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible.)

Original: 3:10 to Yuma (1957), directed by Delmer Daves
Elmore Leonard's short story "Three-Ten to Yuma" has been adapted twice to the big screen. Delmer Daves' 1957 western featuring Glenn Ford in a rare villainous role was well received by critics, as was James Mangold's longer and perhaps even better 2007 version, which borrows from both Leonard's story and the first film. The remake features Russell Crowe in the Ford role, while Christian Bale takes the other lead (originally played by Van Heflin).
