The four episodes sent to critics work well enough because of the performances--especially those of Heusinger, Brake and Katic--the direction by Oded Ruskin, and our wanting to know what Nick is going to do about the two wives and what the two wives are going to do about him. And each other.
The troubling questions and terrific performances are enough to keep you following this murky trail, if you're not seriously burned out on serial killers. There seems to be one waiting around every corner in television, and this dark corner can be found near the intersection of trite and tremendous. Absentia is both.

Absentia turned out to be an engaging mystery/espionage/thriller show. Be aware that the first 3 or 4 episodes are really lame - the actors spoke without emotion and it felt like the characters were talking past each other. At about episode 4, the director and actors got their act together, and the series became intense and engaging. You can draw some parallels between Emily Byrne and Carrie Mathison.

Though Katic does her best, there are better shows involving an obsessed, morally compromised cop looking for answers. But if you need an atmospheric and propulsive binge-watch and don't linger on the details, Absentia will be there for you.
Absentia is just a messy TV series that at its best serves as a reminder that good writing is essential to the medium and that pouting and looking dour and confused it not really premium-cable-style acting.
What you think is never correct. This show has more twists than a pretzel!!! The acting and plot is fantastic besides two of the main actors. You won’t have to guess who they are but I love this show and the unexpected twists that happen

SEASON 1 REVIEW: As someone who's a huge whodunit and an even bigger "Castle" fan, it was only a matter of time before I checked out Absentia. Stana Katic is an incredible actress and, in my opinion, one of the most underrated actresses out there. She gives another masteful performance as Emily Byrne, an FBI agent who tries to pick her life back up after having been abducted for 6 years and having nearly no memory of what happened to her during this time. This season paints a great mystery, and the more pieces of the puzzle you get, the closer you get to the edge of your seat. The conclusion of season 1 pays off, but there's still a lot left unanswered and I'm looking forward to diving into season 2 to find out.

The best part of season 2 is when they went to Muldova and I thought, "Milano cookies would be awesome right now." Seriously? What happened to the writing this season. I have zero interest in any of the characters. The plot is over the top but at the same time boring as heck. Oh well. Season 1 was pretty good.
