will keep repeating for season 3:
one of the series you feel sad when its finished cause you fell into the story like into rabbit hole and the characters became part of you... one of the best series in the genre of all **** to all amazing actors and actresses who are not with us anymore.
Season 3 is named „Point of no Return“ and I say it is a fitting description. From now on there is no turning back and there will be escalations, old and new conflicts emerging and developments that cant be undone. Lets start with a set up: At the end of the last season the secret of the Shadows existence was revealed by a video recording to the galaxy. However not many people know the truth behind this or what to make out of this information. Also Kosh has reveled his presence too in a way that cant be hidden. Meanwhile the Centauri and Earth Alliance have made a non aggression pact. The Centauri after conquering the Narn homeworld start an aggressive campaign for more power and territory against the Non Aligned Worlds while Earth seems to become more and more leaning to become an authoritarian regime. Babylon 5 is caught in the middle of the events as are the characters. With this I end the set up. I always praise that they did a multi season storyline for the show. In this season the set ups pay off a lot. The already great overall arc gains momentum and there are a lot of really good developments and episodes. Again I must praise Joseph Michael Straczynski for this. He can be called the Tolkien of science fiction and with more works he would have created something that has the same worldbuilding and legacy. Again I will praise the whole cast. Bruce Boxleitner, Mira Furlan, Richard Biggs, of cause Andreas Katsulas and Peter Jurasic, Bill Mumy, Claudia Christiansen and all the other. New is Jason Carter as Marcus Cole and Patricia Tallman returns. Good additions to a great cast. Lets continue with my favorite episodes and this will be most of the season: “Matters of Honor” introduces Marcus Cole, the Rangers and has some developments. “Convictions” alone for Londo and G’Kar in this situation but I would be lying if it was not also an intense story outside of this too. “Passing through Gethsemane” is something I did not expect and truly one of the best emotional episodes in any show. Deep story with moral and philosophical dilemmas. So much to think and discuss. The ending is bold and fits perfectly. “Dust to Dust” as it is always interesting when Bester visits the station. Even more with this set up and the beginning of G’Kar’s journey. “Exogenesis” for a good example in how to subvert expectations. Rian Johnson can learn a lot out of this. “Point of no Return” is exactly what it is named after. After this the course is set. It is intense and continues also other developments. It is continued with “Severed Dreams” that is the game changer for the status quo with an awesome battle and resolve. Also Minbar will never be the same too. “Sic Transit Vir” is Vir’s episode and shame on me that I did not praise him more. He is sneakingly but an awesome character. “A Late delivery from Avalon” is again something unexpected and great. I wont spoil more. “Ship of Tears” for big reveals and Bester who got some developments. “Interludes and Examinations” will have huge and multiple ramifications and those will be major. Nothing will be the same. “War without End Part 1 and 2” will close the cycle and give a hint of what might come and what have been. “And the Rock Cried Out, No Hiding Place” for the plot and conclusion. A masterpiece and I am so sorry that I cant say more because of spoilers. “The final episodes “Shadows Dancing” and “Z’ha’dum” for an epic conclusion of the season. It ends with a bang and the story, battles and twist are well working. Overall nearly all episodes end in my favorites list which is a testament for the show. With this it cemented its status and hardly another science fiction show reached this level. An easy must see recommendation for me.
The most epic of the 5 seasons of Babylon 5. This season ends in a HUGE cliffhanger. The balance of power in the galaxy is teetering between dark and light...which way will it fall?
