It in fact reminded me ALOT of the ps4 title until dawn it has a similar feel and look and I loved that game. It's not perfect but it's a damn good watch imo and deserves a shot if you like horror mystery slasher films or love 80s style horror and it's oh so great tropes. I love it and I'm excited to see more! I found another great series to continue!! 9/10 Expand

For older people, or people who've been told a lot of stories, this show is terrible. It's a mishmash of everything you've ever seen before blended together for no good reason to no good end with random 80s references. Characters screaming at everything doesn't make something scary, and the acting is wooden at best, even the usually very good Elizabeth Mitchell. To me, this show has very refined actors and the creep factor is up to 8, not a full 10 allowing for viewers with a softer spine to stomach it. It's a gem surrounded by the sea of coal we see in the so called Freeform tv shows such as Shadowhunters and Guilt.

At the first episodes, it was boring and it looks like a parody, but the characters are very interesting and the plot twist was amazing. I love It.I highly recommended it. The actress who plays Amy is very talented

This is not a bad show once you get past the confusing/boring first 20 minutes. I think that over time the show will develop but I'm not sure it will make it that long because a lot of people have posted bad reviews. It is not as bad as some people make it seem. Let the show develop and then you can say it is either good, bad, or terrible.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You Have to Give it a Chance - As other reviewers have mentioned, after a bit of a slow start, I am finding myself more and more engrossed by the story/mystery. Also, each episode delves into one of the main characters' past, which is making them more believable and interesting. Now, after watching the 3rd episode I am definitely hooked and eager to see more. What is in that freaking box Deb has? What is up with the drug dealer/friends with the rituals/creepy masks? Why did they throw Cricket's boots into the lake? Is Amy alive? Is she the "chosen one?" - chosen for what exactly? Something weird is definitely up with Deb - what is her deal? What's with Deb's mixed messages toward Joel? Why has there not been a single mullet in a show that supposedly takes place in the 80s? I need answers to these questions. Anyway, this show has a lot of potential - definitely growing on me big time... Expand

Very good show. The 2nd episode was the best so far. The first 20 minutes of Episode 1 were boring, but after that it was awesome. Overall, I'd give it a 10/10.

This show is entertaining and relaxing. The actors are fine and I love seeing Juliet from Lost. I like the 80s references. It's worth a watch if you like supernatural horror and teenagers, and the central intrigue of the story is developing nicely.

I love this show! I look forward to every Tuesday for this reason. All the actors play there roles very well, and the show isn't to creepy that it scares people so much, and it is an amazing thriller, always leaving you hanging.

The show was slow to start but started picking up when the character development kicked in. The overall show was decent with the 9th episode (hopefully season, not series finale) Twist ending making all worth it!

This show had it all, a little Jason, a little Friday the 13th, and cultish. This would be a great show to come back in the spring and summer because it would be a great show to watch on the warm nights and thinking of what strange things happen at camp. Show has to return.

I was not sure how to start this. I would normally post my thoughts about this, but I'm kinda underwhelmed with how people perceived this show. It's dumb to compare it to Scream (MTV) or American Horror Story, because it's different and does not depend on the same bugdet. On the same page, I am mostly sure this won't make it far because critics and viewers alike stoned it to death and called it clicheed and uninspired. It's sad to see boring shows that gets tons of praises, and this barely started and it's ripped off.

Anyhow, my opinion about this is very positive and no, I am aware it does not have extremely great actors or well known actors, but they handle it just fine. It doesn't have the greatness of American Horror Story and it's not marketed properly, but as far as I have seen, it made me like and hate and stay hooked up like never in some time which is something, for me. I think their efforts to create a vintage and homage of 80-90s camps full of teenagers making mistakes, turning it into horror stuff. It's really fine. It really looks great up to now and I cannot really think of something that breaks this show. Maybe it has some flaws, clichees and not a shining script, but it's not a 4 or 5 rated show. I really believe it's going to set up great in the future, if it will have one, having all these mixed and negative responses, but I hope they will give it a chance to live.

Being a 80s horror fan. this show got my attention, but failed to hold it. I got through the season, but only because I was watching it with someone else. The music was good. I was in my teens to early twenties when this was set. I knew a lot of gay people, few were that out in the Midwest. I don't remember any open trans-kids. It’s that fuck-it sense of kitchen sink 80’s nostalgia that endears me to Dead of Summer, despite its failings. It’s overkill, but at least it’s trying to be more than the next show down the thriller list on your DVR whose season pass you delete after 2 weeks.

After watching a mere two episodes, I felt as though I’d squandered an entire summer watching Dead of Summer, a supernatural/horror/YA drama/soap opera, which starts moldering on Freeform Tuesday night.

There's a different version of Dead of Summer in which having a character half-named after the Antichrist and half-named after the 20th century's most notorious occultist prophet would be part of a general wink-and-nudge approach to a slew of genre conventions. The actual version premiering on Freeform June 28 is not that fun, smart or creative, and not satisfyingly scary, mysterious or disturbing either.
