A historian discredits Stuckeyville's founder and his Revolutionary War hero status so Ed takes it to court. Nancy wants Mike to list everything he doesn't want their daughter to know. Ed becomes obsessed with a man from Carol's past.

Ed represents Doug who is being sued by his father for school tuition after he quits school. Molly becomes intrigued by a new guy Ted but is still seeing Sean. Mike and Nancy devise a test to pick Sarah's guardian among their friends.

Carol is offered a writing job in New York leaving Ed with a decision to make. When he decides he will move with her it causes ripple effects. Mike feels the need to audition for a new best friend and Stuckey Bowl's employees are worried.

As the residents of Stuckeyville put together Carol's going-away celebration, Ed struggles to decide whether he should follow her to New York or stay put.

A curvy former classmate (Madchen Amick) distracts Ed as he prepares to join Carol in Manhattan for Christmas; Mike and Nancy hope to encourage the construction crew to finish rebuilding their house in time for Christmas.

Ed gives advice he soon regrets regarding pre-nups to Mr. Mazula. Carol is under a lot of pressure between wedding planning and publishing deadlines until Molly steps in. Mike crumbles when he takes on more decision making.

Ed's ex-wife Liz shows up and needs extensive legal help from Ed which makes Carol uncomfortable. Toby, a student in Carol's writing class, makes a concerted effort for Carol to start dating him despite her engagement to Ed.

Ed's ex-wife Liz returns with a business idea to interest Ed and gives him an valuable gift which concerns Carol. Eli's attempt to save the community center leads to a radio job. Gunther, an exchange student, makes a move on Nancy.

With Ed and Carol's wedding happening soon Lloyd and Stella reappear. Lloyd has tax problems and expects Ed to fix it. Stella starts things back up with Warren and Carol disapproves. Mike and Nancy compete to see who is sicker.

Happily Ever After

Ed is inspired to have a circus themed wedding and Carol agrees. Molly and Nancy try to stop it with second thoughts occurring mid vows. Mike takes one last bet. Warren and Mark do a hilarious homage to Ed's courtship of Carol.
