One of the few shows on network TV that does everything right. A true slice of American life from the state of Texas. I just rewatched after watching when it aired 15 years ago and I like it even more this time through.

The biggest and most pleasant surprise of the season.
The show, and its survival, offers proof that quality can triumph in an industry driven by quantity and that even though necessity is the more fertile of the two, poetry can also be a fine mother to invention.
Intensely stirring.
It isn't as ambitious or objective as HBO's "The Wire," but it's about as close as broadcast TV gets to "The Wire." It finely depicts the daily grim and gritty existence of kids and adults dealing with narrow hopes, sad expectations, provincial victories, race and poverty.
Standard high school sports soap opera.
Friday Night Lights is a series that shows the in depth passion that the state of Texas has for the game of football. Especially, High School Football. It is definitely a "binge" watch type of series. With the inescapable drama and the cliff hangers, Friday Night Lights is a show that will keep you on your toes, like a Quarterback throwing a wide open pass for a touchdown.

Too much whitey hate blacky for me. All the tropes are there from top to bottom. Not sure how the critics received this well as I've never seen people act like this and I went to a school in a pretty rich area as well.. Not once did one of the white kids pull his laptop away from one of the black kids.
