There is a sense of rebirth here built on a new, enlightened, and empowered understanding of 21st century womanhood, wonderfully represented by the unlikely triumph of the group.
Season 2 proves that the show isn’t even close to running out of steam — each plot point is deliberately designed to take these characters in the most exciting and satisfying direction possible.
Girls5eva continues to build out its quirky, colorful world in Season 2, and each new face and development only makes it all richer. ... A showcase for some seriously funny women and infectious ear worms.
Getting the balance right is tricky, but the show pulls it off. There is so much joy to be found in every episode, and we get the first three in one go, which is a lot of delight in a single sitting.
Two of Girls5eva’s greatest strengths are its discipline regarding the sitcom format — compact drama on an episodic basis but slow transformation on a longer timeline — and its belief that comedies need jokes, and those undergird this successful second season.
“Girls5Eva” faces a choice: it needs to commit to the bit and go completely off the rails with Wickie as the main character or find better ways to blend comedy with the pressing issues female artists face today.
Too often the show settles for goofy sentiment, oversimplifying the group's complex friendships. Needs more spice.
