Season 2 Review: With the reboot bringing back old characters from the original series, it’s safe to say that Gossip Girl is acknowledging at least some of the problems that made its first season such a harrowing disappointment. And at least there have at least been efforts to fix them. Though it’s a vacant endeavor, the fan service at least buys the show some time. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before I get started I would like to say that several years of my life were dedicated to binging all the seasons of Gossip Girl as if it was my job. Like over and over again, finished the last season and immediately began at season 1. So with that being said, let's get started. Spoilers ahead: so let's address this right off the bat: CB teachers being gossip girl is weird, yes, but at least they're trying to get that storyline out of the way immediately (versus Dan's awkward confession in the last season). Weird as hell and hopefully they get their asses throw in jail for creeping on a 15 year old WTF. I like the difference with Julien and Zoya being half-sisters but the good ol' Gossip Girl miscommunication trope is alive in this series as well, with storylines that could be avoided but where's the drama without it? Probably less cringe. Speaking of cringe, the fact that coronavirus is canon in the Gossip Girl universe made me roll my eyes every reference to lockdown and masks. That's one whole page of the script right there, rona jokes. It's easy to point out which character is an homage to past characters, but damn if the new Chuck Bass isn't just as annoying as the old one. Xanny's galore. MAX. I just had to look up his wiki page because it wasn't memorable at all. And also homosexual tension in a walk-in closet scene. This show is much less straight than the OG show, and it knows that with one character genuinely saying "don't straight-shame me" ooooof Wait I have just been reminded that this is a high school show. Well, for a high school it's not too bad. It'll hopefully age well enough for a comfortable rewatch, unlike the OG with many questionable writing moments. This reboot is already better in my eyes because there isn't a Dan Humphrey/Gossip Girl storyline that no one asked for. Also Obie isn't cute enough for all the future storylines I'm gonna be forced to sit through with him crying about his privilege and looking a lil constipated...
Kristen Bell's voice is carrying this reboot on her back, and I'll probably be following all the cast-members on insta tonight.… Expand

I am actually enjoying this show so far! I think more people would feel the same way if it was compared to the original Gossip Girl less. They are completely different shows. The only thing I find unlikeable about the show is the teachers. I just think it's kind of creepy and IJul 19, 2021

I just think it's kind of creepy and I hope that it's not them controlling the Gossip Girl account the entire show because it's quite disgusting. On another note, I don't hate any of the characters from the friend group which is super rare for me. I am also super intrigued with the Max, Audrey, Aki love triangle it really keeping me invested and waiting for the next episode. I'm glad that there is more diversity in this reboot because there was barely any in the OG Gossip Girl and I hope that they are able to execute it well. Overall, I am truly enjoying this show!… Expand

It is superficial, no good character developing, it looks more like Netflix's "Elite" than the essence of the books or the original show.
