The punchlines fly thick, fast and pointed in Kevin Can Wait, and enough of them land to make it a diverting, if unenlightening, experience.

The larger issue here is that James and Hayes are pretty much all Kevin has.

Predictability ensues, of course, but that’s why people tune in to James. ... There is acceptable, if not quite credible, chemistry between James and Hayes, the laugh track is annoying but expected, Spreitler is also what you’d expect her to be, and the only tiny pinprick of creativity can be seen in the character of Chale and Cartwright’s performance.

This is a throwback to mediocrities like “Still Standing” that gave us chubby hubbies acting like big kids and pretty wives who have to boss them around.

It feels less like a show of its own than a collection of hoary TV tropes--Schlumpy Guy With a Hot Wife, Wimpy Son-in-Law, Hypochondriac Kid--strung together in service of the pun in the title.

Kevin Can Wait is a terrible and unimaginative show that has no business being on the air at a time when the standard for TV comedy has risen (at least on other networks and platforms) to such a high level.

In fact, after reading a few negative reviews and comments I wasn't really that interested in watching it. Thankfully my wife and son both love Kevin James and wanted to at least check out the first episode! For a Pilot, I must admit I was very, very impressed. The humor kept me laughing regularly and none of it was forced. I love the setting of the show (the house and diner), and the characters seem to have great chemistry. Kevin's wife, played by Erin Hayes was very believable and she was really funny. I'm sure some fans of King of Queens had high expectations because Kevin's wife in that show played by Leah Remini set the bar pretty high. I enjoyed Erin as much or even more than Leah's character on his past show. I'm excited to see if this show stays on the air. Fingers crossed! Expand

Its actually pretty funny, as Kevin James is, and the familiar family scenario while predictable, still manages to garner some good laughs. Kevin Can Wait, while comedic is great because of what it represents, and not necessarily because of its writing. Much of the cast is obviously made up of James's personal friends, and his brother on the show, is actually his brother. Accordingly, there are a few guys who can't really act, and I'd be lying if I said that cringey dialogue was totally absent, but Kevin Can Wait is almost totally clean. Will this be winning any emmys, almost definitely not, but It is something that a family can watch together, and revel in the innocence of. Expand

KCW was disappointing because it didn't feel real, the fake audience laughter all through it was irritating and his wife really didn't fit with his character as well as the rest of the show cast. I love Kevin and his acting but this one really needs immediate attention if it plans to survive. I hope they fix it because I would like see some new programs with Kevin in it and hope this one will make it. KOQ was such a good and real show I really enjoy watching it. Since they still use his brother maybe bring back Leah Remini?? She was great with Kevin! Hoping for survival... Expand

What makes it worse, besides Kevin James attempt to be funny, is someone pushing the laugh-tract button every few seconds making it appear an audience finds this pathetic show amusing.
