It's nicely crafted with a slower pace than the average police "procedural," but more than enough character intrigue to compensate.

Longmire is an exceptionally well written and well performed series based on the Longmire book series written by best selling author Craig Johnson. The cast is superb and the fans are devoted beyond the typical fan base as evidenced by the 7 year long annual gathering of fans from around the world for “Longmire Days” each year in Buffalo Wyoming... If you’re not familiar with the books or the show, do yourself a favor and check them out...

Longmire, with spacious New Mexico standing in for Wyoming as the series' production base, makes a solid overall first impression without rising to the level of critical huzzahs.
As with any pilot, Longmire barely scratches the surface of the possible directions it could go but the premiere does an excellent job establishing a sense of place and character. It's enough to make a viewer want to return for more.
The pilot efficiently sets up the series. All the characters who are introduced have plenty of places they could go.
The show is so slow-moving that you may find yourself fighting vainly the old ennui.
Longmire has the look and feel of a show cooked up by a bunch of bored TV industry types while they were waiting for the valet to bring their car to them at the Beverly Hills Chuck E. Cheese.
C’est l’histoire, non pas l’histoire, le train-train routinier du shérif Derrick Longue mire dans un état perdu, le Wyoming, un état où y a des Indiens, des Amérindiens pardon, et des Amiches entre autres. Et des meurtres aussi de temps en temps (on est en Amérique quand même).Alors Papy shériff et sa tête de vieux con, il mène l’enquête avec son Colt et sa Winchester. Il est secondé par Katy « Starbuck », et on est content de la revoir cette tordue de Starbuck ! Seulement voilà, hélas, elle amuse le terrain et rien d’autre, la pauvre ! Pareil pour Lou Diamond Phillips qui fait plus de la figuration qu’autre chose. Quel gâchis tout de **** enquêtes sont rondement menées et résolues à chaque épisode, aucun fil conducteur, aucune trame principale : en gros, c’est juste Conlumbo avec un chapeau de cowboy et un vieux 4×4 pourri. On a surtout l’impression de regarder à chaque fois un épisode de merde des Experts à la cambrousse.
