All positive comments have been made in the critics by the professionals, II just want to echo and in short **** is a very successful Apple TV drama series.
“Pachinko” is a groundbreaking, stunning, Asian-led production. Easily one of the best-looking narratives on Apple TV, the series weaves a meticulously wrought tapestry woven from the fabric of a scattered history.
The show is at once an educational, sweeping saga (about culture, history, politics, romance, and lineage), and a pointed story about its protagonist, Sunja, and her loved ones at various times in their lives. As such, it’s brimming with ideas, and conveys them really well.
Pachinko is technically impressive on all levels — it’s visually stunning, with a knockout score by Nico Muhl. The show is also gorgeous to look at in in each era it covers. ... But early and often, Pachinko makes clear that where our people come from, and what they’ve been through, is always a part of who we are in the present. And it delivers that message with precision force throughout. Don’t miss it.
“Pachinko” may not have the grandiose, accumulative power it seeks, but it does have many facets to recommend it, including the power of its storytellers, in front of and behind the camera.
While she [showrunner Soo Hugh] conjures moments of immense power, and of connection, throughout, “Pachinko” does not, finally, cohere. One yearns for the show that let its key moments sing without the at-times forced collisions between eras, ones that can keep viewers feeling both on the hook and in the dark.
Fave book since 2018. Had high expectations after reading all the critical rave reviews. **** far exceeds these expectations and now I know why critics were claiming masterpiece. The cinematography, opening credits, casting, music, acting, everything is outstanding! First time too where the characters, especially all three Sunja & Hansu, are even better than my imagination! I especially like the time switches as it highlights how some things have changed whilst others remain the same. Must watch TV!
After reading all the reviews from critics, I had to give **** a try. It did not disappoint. **** is indeed a masterpiece. I love the story and how people can connect/relate to it no matter where they are from. The cast is incredible and their performances are outstanding. Looking forward to watching upcoming episodes. Without a doubt one of the if not the best shows of the year.
just finished watching 3 episodes and I have to say it’s a real masterpiece! The cast is brilliant. Their lines, emotions, and even breathe take me into it and feel it. I’m deeply touched and can’t help crying!
An often ponderous costume drama which doesn't trust the audience to observe and draw its own conclusions. Like so much network TV, this one is more of demonstration of a story than actual one. Fabulous sets and costumes can't save this one from its own lumbering insistence on its own importance and the usual party line.
