This excellent sci-fi series, which cleverly blends comedy and drama with a murder mystery, is a blast. “Resident Alien” is laugh-out-loud funny, full of heart-felt moments and, much like Harry himself, surprisingly sincere. It’s the first must-watch show of 2021.
The show is off to a great start. ... Tudyk’s performance makes Resident Alien work, but there’s a quirky-enough world around Alien Harry that the show should be more than a one-note joke.

Very good a lot of laughs and I would very highly recommend this to my friends and family.

Resident Alien proves capacious in its depiction of Harry’s assimilation, too, as his callousness gradually gives way to empathy, resulting in poignant moments that ground his odyssey in deeply human experience.
When "Resident Alien" resists the urge to meander and sits with Harry's various epiphanies about the human need to belong and yearning to forge bonds with others, it glimmers with the potential to be a show that's as heartfelt and contemplative as it is dark and funny. These strengths become lost in its initial journey, but with Tudyk serving as its beacon that may not matter.
The combination of Tudyk’s otherworldly performance and Sheridan’s execution of stories running on multiple, parallel tracks make “Resident Alien” a welcome addition to the dwindling ranks of scripted basic cable originals.
It's a nice send-up of various genres, based on the Dark Horse comic books. However, it feels too slight to warrant hour-long episodes and would perhaps be snappier in half-hour bites.
The TV incarnation of Resident Alien struggles to find a consistent tone, layers in more artificial storytelling obstacles than the premise requires and only occasionally figures out how to use its appealing cast. ... After seven episodes I'd grown tired of wading through the half-dozen plotlines I didn't care about for the one or two that I did.
My thoughts on Resident Alien and why you should move it up on your list of things to watch(No Spoilers)
The beginning felt a little like it may just be a sitcom. But as the story unfolds (within episode one), it becomes something more. Eventually, you find yourself caught up in a sci-fi/dramedy/mystery series. The plot thickens and starts to offer up a little bit of something for every viewer. The show has a very talented group of actors, each perfectly suited for their roles. The story and characters keep you connected, and it doesn't need lots of special effects to keep you hooked. You will see some beautiful landscapes accompanied by a great soundtrack. By the end of this first season, I wanted to see and know more. The story is not complicated, just easy and fun to watch.
While there are some heartfelt moments, the writers and directors do a great job keeping it light and fun. The show also has a funny way of pointing out the faults in humanity without making you feel labeled or judged. If you enjoy the vampire characters of What We do in the Shadows and the plot of Only Murders in the Building, then I think you will enjoy this show just as much.

Fun but simple, it's strong concept quickly turns into an average dramedy with a sci-fi twist. Lacking any sophistication beyond its visual effects, makes light of the dramatic parts of it's story and opts for simple humour instead of something with more depth. Great to switch off and watch at the end of a work day though.

It could have been so good ... but no.
This is the story of an incompetent alien from an inept race on a silly mission.
The story makes no sense and anyone with half a brain will immediately see the many glaring issues in the pilot episode.
Ignoring all that the show starts a bit funny it goes down fast.
It's an American show from 2021 so "The Message" is there. And it's as difficult to watch as ever.
I was able to go through by skipping any scene with:
_ only women (so many so bad and weird, it's an insult)
_ women and stupid men (most men in the show)
_ children
In a nutshell, if the alien is not in there, I skipped.
After a few episodes even that wasn't enough and I had to stop.
Don't waste your time and skip it completely.

Season 2 is not even the same show. Depressing, not funny. In season one Alan Tudyk's characters was so fun to watch, as he learned to negotiate in human form. Now it's ****. Storylines were dropped, character's personalities completely changed, doing things they never would have done in S1. Hate the new "woke" social commentary. Season 2 has been very disappointing
