The character of Bob Lee Swagger is a modern-day version of Captain America mixed with Jason Bourne. It's a great combination, and with a stellar cast and plenty of action and intensity, it all leads to one heck of an enjoyable program.
Shooter doesn’t take off until the second episode. Part of the pilot is sleep-inducing, especially when Swagger’s trying to figure out how a sniper would take out his target. But once Swagger begins “hunting” those who have wronged him, it becomes an enjoyable rollercoaster ride.
Mark Wahlberg as Executive Producer speaks volumes about how the TV series faithfully harkens back to the Movie and the original creators and book author. I really like this series and think it is under rated! I think Rhea Durham should be a guest star.
I loved watching this with the kids. I know most people wouldn't want their kids to see this but I found it was a great introduction for them and can't wait until season 2.
Watching Shooter as a series is like falling back into a well-known and familiar story, just one with lots of guns. It’s downright comfortable. And that’s odd.
Shooter isn't badly done. Some of the dialogue is cheesy ("Your country needs you"), and characters feel like cardboard cutouts. But Phillippe is sympathetic enough, and there is real tension throughout, with an exciting (if not exactly shocking) twist at the end of the premiere. The problem is that Shooter doesn't feel like the right show for our times, which are already tense enough.
Although the pilot sets up a potentially provocative scenario in which a law-abiding gun owner becomes an object of government suspicion, Shooter ultimately feels diluted and toothless.
Shooter provides a welcome contrast to the kinds of exploitative shows that use former service members as cartoonish villains or deranged murderers. Those modest attributes aside, everything else about the drama feels just a little undercooked and rudimentary.
Even though it is not a masterpiece, Shooter is entertaining. Phillippe may not be Mark Wahlberg but he doesn't **** either. The longevity of the show is a mystery but at least it isn't a complete mess.
Shooter is a good series, is entertaining I liked watching this, however is very common building an action drama around a military hero and show the US government influence in conflicts of other countries, I'll be waiting for the second season
Some American trash is good. Some American trash is not.
Ryan Phillipe = Good American trash in my opinion, and as a result makes shooter some what watchable.
Pretty weak dialogue and pretty corny.
The problem with Shooter is that it tries to be a serious action series but on the contrary is quite laughable when it comes to plausibility with some of the plots. It just seems like every small episodic crisis has such a weak resolution to it. All these professionals making such amateur mistakes. It is like watching Hot Shots without the comedy aspect to it. But Shooter has you guessing from start to finish on how the storyline will fold out.
