Small Town News: KPVM Pahrump is funny as heck, but it also shows just how tough it is to run a news-driven local station, no matter how small the area it covers is.
“Small Town News” does have some heart as Vern chokes up discussing his questionably advisable dream to expand the station’s coverage to Vegas. But by the end the series feels both overly long and unsatisfying, wrapping up without a conclusion for whether Vern’s big Vegas bet pays off.
It's a curious oddity, and unfortunately for all of the potential in its concept, it stays that way. ... But there’s no main plot, or larger point; the efforts to build a light, quirky character comedy out of a fly-on-the-wall experience don't work so well either.
