Despite the predictable conclusion, "Stargate SG-1," leaves many character threads dangling tantalizingly. If you aren't careful, this series could definitely hook you. [27 Jul 1997]
The two-hour premiere is sort of fun, but the plot is nutty even by sci-fi standards.

This series easily became my most favorite series of all time. Its also the only sci fi genre that i ever could fully get into. The cast is great, the small stories in each episode were nicely done, the atmosphere just fits.

Stargate SG-1 is mainstream sci-fi television of the no-brainer genre. Light on intellectual depth and heavy on action, it seems destined to play toward a younger age group than the Star Trek and Babylon 5 sort of science fiction shows. [24 Jul 1997]
"SG-1" is a passable action series on a par with most syndicated sci-fi fare. Its only real distinguishing feature is [a] ludicrous, completely gratuitous nude scene. [26 Jul 1997]

Pedestrian writing, pulp-mag plotting, shopworn characters, hackneyed dialogue ('with all due respect' pops up at least three times in the first hour) and Mario Azzopardi’s broad direction will all undoubtedly delight billions and billions.
If a series can summarize my 20's then it's Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, but especially SG-1, the cast, story, it's an amazing journey. Grateful for the experience, seen it from start to finish three times.

It was a great show and we thought it could become as big as Star Trek and maybe reaching a bit of Star Wars levels. Remark: Both franchises were better, had fan acclaim and were more successful back then as today as sidenote. The show follows the events of the Stargate movie by Roland Emmerich from 1994. There we learned that mankind was really visited by aliens in the past. In Egypt a gate was found that is able to open a wormhole to a different planet far away. It was discovered that the aliens used their advanced technology to present themselves as gods to the primitive human societies. Like Arthur C. Clark said “A highly advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”. The problem was solved when the alien spaceship was destroyed by a nuclear missile or we thought so. However this was just the door opener (no pun intended) to a lager adventure. The strengths of the show were the lore that lets you do practical anything, great characters and that the set up of the characters and arcs. Many things will be build up and have impacts or developments in later seasons or were prepared in previous seasons to unfold. This made a unique experience as things can come back to bite you in the back, are develop further or give new perspectives.

Solid generic action sci-fantasy and I don't mean that in a bad way. All about the US miliary travelling through a gate on earth to strange new planets. Well not that strange the planets as mostly look like earth forests. Nobody ever hardly watches the planetary gates. Plus all the humans speak english even when seperated for hundreds and it a lot of cases thousands of years. So the suspension of disbelief will be required in a few places. The stories are generally one off and all wrapped in one episode. Sometimes they come back to a few of the episodes later and bounce off them. The acting is fine while the stories and characters are mostly engaging. Budget and effects are not that great (first entire watch in 2022), but beats the Wormhole X-Treme show and a lot of new-age sci-fi shows writing hands down. It's not a master piece like the BSG reboot or has the deep writing of say Babylon 5. Then again that does make the series fairly accessable to wider audiences who like science fantasy lite.

Difficile de dire si la série est pire que le film ou l’inverse : il y a un peu… photo à l’arrivée ! évidemment monsieur « MacGyver » nuit énormément à la crédibilité de l’ensemble très bon marché même si ça s’est un peu amélioré sur les 2 dernières saisons…
J’aime bien la jolie blonde cependant et l’intello à lunettes me fait bien rire. Une série à prendre au second ou troisième degré tant le bas de gamme s’insinue partout : des dialogues raplaplats à l’écriture des petites histoires (on dirait des rédactions d’un élève de 4ème) qui ne cassent pas 3 pattes à un canard (pour être gentil).Tout cela est dans l’ensemble très superficiel : de la SF de papa qui pourra éventuellement distraire les enfants mais dont les épisodes (si nombreux !) se révèlent très répétitifs, un peu niais et surtout bien trop souvent très chiants !
