The Knick is the most detailed show on TV, but by grounding the characters in timeless themes--addiction, class, race, desire, competition--the show transcends its undeniable craftsmanship to become something even greater, something uniquely incredible in today’s TV world. In arguably the best year of television to date, it still stands out.
Assuming there are no serious future complications, The Knick is already well on its way to being one of the year’s best TV shows.

Great show! This is a show you wait a long time to appear and then hope it stays on for a very long time. I'm not sure what they've done with the Clive Owen character, I'd be disappointed if he is truly gone off the show. Great overall cast, great writing, great filming. I hope it gets nominated for something!

I can't really explain how awesome, cool and perfect this show is. Steven Soderbergh has made an amazing work, Clive Owen shows his talent and the result is the best series ever.

The Knick isn't simply a lush costume drama, a gory medical history, or a lesson in social studies. It inspires true passion.
The downside is that the storytelling can feel awfully cold. Moments that should be personally affecting are often used to illustrate historical truths instead.... But these characters are still fascinating case studies for the mind-body connections we make as viewers: They’re better appreciated with the brain than the heart.
At points, the new episodes strain to link past and present, with Thackery launching into didacticism about how addiction needs to be viewed as an illness, and not a moral failing. His argument seems a bit too forward-thinking, and it threatens the show’s hard-earned period authenticity. But generally, the writing pulls in still-festering themes effortlessly, blending them with plotlines that are never less than engaging.
It’s frequently witty, vulgarly funny, sexy, and suspenseful. It makes you want to see its next scene the instant a new episode ends.
Though Season 2 expands beyond Dr. Thackery’s worldview to a more even-keeled ensemble structure, this shouldn’t be an ensemble show. It should be Dr. Edwards’ show, and--just like its aforementioned limitations in quality--it comes so close to that, it’s even more painful that it’s not.
A wonderful show that grips you to your core! I recommend this to anyone who loves medical shows but loves realistic drama in general! 10/10 I hope everyone gets a chance to check out this amazing show!!

Best show currently on television. a sweet minimalist techno background music mixes really well with the best photography/acting/writing mix since Breaking Bad. Every element heightens the rest to make something orchestral.

Stellar and unique program. Clive Owen fits perfectly into his role and so do the other characters. In my opinion and realistic view of the wonderful yet brutal discovery of new medical diagnosis and treatments in the time period. Pretty emotional show that helps you live through the mental states these doctors had to go through to attempt reaching the next level of medical knowledge.

Unique show! The camera shots are so gorgeous and flowing. The hardest part are the surgery moments for me, but it says a lot that they feel so real that they make me squimish. Clive Owen is remarkable and I adore the character Algernon. I am surprised I enjoy this show as much as I do because I am not usually one for medical shows. This one is extraordinary.

A prime example of television gold. Clive Owen is fantastic as is the rest of the cast showcased. The world and it's struggles are displayed with realism and dread, just as the time period entitles. A brilliant and underrated spectacle.
