The problem with Schwarzenegger is that, unlike Trump, there’s no relish in his malice, no delusion in his self-importance. Trump was fun to watch because he took his own fame and authority seriously at a time when he could be dismissed as a pufferfish in a three-piece suit. Schwarzenegger tries for some of that bluffness--reaching for a thick cigar after “terminating” someone--but it comes off a little desperate.
In the two-hour premiere of the new Apprentice, Schwarzenegger talks tough but basically sticks to logic: Reasonable people get fired and get fired reasonably, now with the catchphrase “You’re terminated,” which elicited a knowing giggle from the contestants. ... The resulting show is as dull as one hopes Trump’s presidency will be.

Celebrity Apprentice returned to NBC last night, sludging its way through an ad-clogged premiere that ran two hours but felt like six. ... Arnie wasn’t dreadful, but he wasn’t memorable, either.
Fatally, “The New Celebrity Apprentice” is, for all its newfound political relevance, just plain old boring. It turns out watching a bunch of kinda-sorta famous people doing fake jobs and getting fake-fired in the name of charity grows old pretty fast.
What plagues this version of “Celebrity Apprentice” is the utterly rote fashion with which it is being conducted, missing out on a prime opportunity to reinvent the show, change some of the rules and conventions.
Mr. Schwarzenegger’s cautiousness and rigidity make him a poor fit. (Though perhaps they came in handy in the governor’s office.) The “Apprentice” franchise has never been great television, but Mr. Trump gave it a reason for being. After Monday’s numbingly boring opener, someone needs to take “The New Celebrity Apprentice” into the boardroom, quick.
Throughout the entirety of the first task, the editing makes the women look like deranged, useless hens clucking over each other to the detriment of progress, while the men’s manliness and how they harness it--“but I’m a manly man…” is a phrase uttered once every 10 minutes—become the episode’s running theme.
