For drama fans (and crime drama fans in particular), The Sinner remains a very underrated anthology that always delivers a solid case with a great cast around it. It’s a good binge watch, but a worthy weekly exploration as well.
The Sinner is a procedural. But unlike most others that are obsessed with the “who,” this gets at the “why.” Talk about intriguing.

This is more of a review of season 3, but first i'll just say season 1 was pretty good, had great moments, probably an 8. Season 2 was okay, more of a 7. The RT review page states The Sinner season 3 is about "toxic masculinity". That's cute. What a simplistic and biased way to look at it. No, Season 3 is about death. Death, talking about, learning about, and dealing with death. And the existential crisis of one man, on to another, on to another. Death is something each and everyone of us will deal with throughout our lives, and most of the time we try to hide it away. Or find ways to pretend it's all ok. Or that it won't happen to us. THAT is what season 3 is about, and i think it's a riveting, well acted, well directed, and well written season. 10/10, great stuff.

The Sinner proceeds according to its own internal logic, and while I would quibble with the presentation of one or two bits of information in the first couple of episodes, there are no moments that feel egregiously contrived or unfair to the audience.
Pullman and Biel are solidly in charge of their pivotal roles in a drama where “close-ended” presumably means a firm conclusion and no Season Two. So at an economical eight episodes, all this gloom and doom at least has the benefit of also being foreseeably finite. Expect your tolerance to be tested, though, particularly in the first half of Episode One. But if I were you, I’d proceed.
It’s a show that resonates on the surface more than in any deeper well of mental thought, but there’s something effortlessly salacious and shocking about it that totally lives up to the likely page-turning nature of its source material.
“The Sinner” feels more like a familiar mystery series than it did at the best points in the first three years. ... If Kremelberg is meant to be this year's star, she's a cipher to start the season, and other Muldoons feel a bit undefined as well.
The series is over-plotted, but not fatally so. Regardless of mini-howlers here and there, we’re as curious as Ambrose to know who Cora really is and what happened to her in the past that went off like a grenade on a sunny day at the beach.
Season 1: Starts out intriguing, creates an interesting enigma, but gradually collapses under the characters’ strange and irrational behavior, and several plot holes. The last two episodes are told With a lot of too drawn-out scenes which makes you want to fast-forward since it is obvious what is going to happen.

The first one or two episodes of each season are usually quite intriguing and suspensful. Then it rapidly devolves into some kind of long drawn, brooding nonsense littered with psychological mumbo jumbo or, laughably simplistic and clichéd musings on Nietzschean philosophy as in season 3.
So points for Ep 1 and 2 and 0 for the rest.
