It's Goodfellas on steroids. James Gandolfini's performance was truly genius. I can't imagine anyone could have done a better job as Tony Soprano.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just finished the last episode after 3 months of watching the whole 6 seasons... What can I say? How is it possible to love a character that kills/ or tries to / or orders the kill (even members from his own family), cheat his wife episode after episode, extort, sells protection, sells drugs, steals and sells the loot and the list goes on? Yet again, I loved him... and the end? Even with the spoiler tag will not go into further details.

Gorgeous from the start to end... Way to go Tony...

James Gandolfini as the lead character Tony Soprano was just perfection I mean Gandolfini was so good in this role and at times I didn't really see him playing Tony Soprano, I only sawed Tony Soprano himself. As I said before about me seeing Gandolfini in a couple of movies, but now after seeing him in The Soprano I think he gives his best performance on HBO cable. The rest of the cast did good as well, I mean nobody did a terrible performance in the show.

The intro to the show as well was pretty good, because when you have a great TV show you got to have a great intro and boy dose the Sopranos have a brilliant intro.

Now for the problems: These one thing that I can't stand is filler in TV show episodes, and the Sopranos doesn't have the worst fillers but in some episodes felt a bit filler to me.

Overall Season one of The Sopranos is so far good, I like what I see so far and I can't wait to watch Season Two. Season One was spot on brilliant.

A ok story with a great actor that doesn't seem to fill the role of a godfather, he looks like the guy that would get slapped around in middle school and have no luck with the ladies but did a fantastic job at his role.

The story is quite a bore with nothing going on but drama, there is hardly any action and the lead character is nothing but a QQ drama queen, who cares only of himself

They have more conflict with each other than they do with anyone else it's a huge disappointment for a gangster film.

It is rare to watch a show that is written, directed and acted so well that you can't believe it's not real. The Sopranos takes the Italian mafia, a group that have come to be portrayed as almost mythical in classic films, and presents it in a more human and more believable way. James Gandolfini's portrayal of Tony Soprano is an acting masterclass. This show is seriously difficult to fault.

Often credited with kicking off the so called “golden age” of television the show follows the life of mob boss Tony Soprano as he tries to balance his business responsibilities with family life. Having recently re-watched this first season it really highlighted just how simplistic and uninteresting the majority of other TV shows are in comparison as, right from the pilot, The Sopranos does a fantastic job of balancing out the lives and arcs of practically every major cast member treating viewers to one of the most complex character studies ever witnessed on screen. Add this to a fantastic cast that play their roles to perfection and you have a program of rare quality.

the sopranos is better than the wire for me, but its an apples and oranges thing. this show is endlessly fascinating, incredibly rich, and effortlessly reflective of america itself. the wire further deconstructed the episodic shackles of television, and the idiot drive to pacify an audience, but the sopranos owned the narrative perspective, and the cynical portrait of the larger world it is set in. we got to know the city of omars baltimore real well from watching the wire. but tonys america is the world we are living in.

Expand
