There are design flaws in everything from menus, track design, building a coherent theme for the game, music direction, gameplay, game modes, and controls. I don't think EA has ever tested this on normal people. I would say this is one of EA's worst games ever.
Its not quite clear what the end goal of the game is. The menus are complicated and not labeled well. Navigation doesn't make much sense once you've beaten a challenge, displaying if you beat it or not, and where to go next is a headache. This starts you out with a tutorial for babies. Part of the game play is selecting equipment, but you can just hit "optimize." Instead of picking a racing line and getting down fast with the analog stick, you are jumping and then using the airsuit, skipping around from peak to peak. Most of the time you are not snowboarding! The airsuit barely glides forward or you end up on the far edge of every section. Endless crashes and rewinds every time. If you die in the game you are NOT reset. The entire challenge ends and must reload from disk. The control inputs are jumpier, faster, causing your character to go everywhere. Its hard to explore any section or race. The rewind mode is cheating. It must have been invented to stop the repetitive deaths from bad track design. Really there is nothing in this that I'd call a game.
The button tips don't match if you switch control schemes! Characters are UN-lockables. Classic SSX control must be unlocked after some game play! The characters personality aren't as amped up as in Tricky or SSX and they don't match the mood of this particular game. The music isn't funky anymore. The music that is in the game doesn't match the dark dangerous tracks. There are more things wrong with the game than what I've listed.
I have no desire to play this one for longer than 20 minutes. EA needs to spend longer making these fun instead of just creating a product. All EA does is just create good looking, but not-fun experience in every game they create now. SSX is a prime example of why I no longer purchase EA games.… Expand

This game contains some of the worst controls & game design I've seen in all my years. I had to change my score as I realized there are parts of the game that were not complete.
Highlights include good music and ability to switch to Classic Sonic. But the side scrolling levels are the worst part. The level design is nowhere near as good as classic sonic games. I feel Sega Team does not like classic Sonic and don't care.
Some 3d levels were perfect. I had fun grinding rails and outrunning big enemies in closed streets. But most levels had unfinished areas to fall into, causing you to die because of unresponsive controls. Jumping is clearly laggy. Many times I had my joystick pointed one way but Sonic boosted the opposite way.
On the surface, and after a few hours it seems like a good game, but the bad points and unfinished nature of the game outwheigh anything positive. It is perfectly clear to me Sonic Team has not made a good game in 20 years. I can't recommend this Sonic game to anyone.
You will get bored with its technical problems and probably won't finish the game. 3/10 points.… Expand

Lara is supposedThis is not a real Tomb Raider game. Whoever is making these games is ruining what made Lara Croft famous in the first place. Lara is supposed to be glamorous girl with a wild side for nabbing artifacts and escaping traps (Like Indiana Jones). What we got here is a run & gun cover shooter with a TERRIBLE horror story.
This game has part / item collecting & surviving. That is extremely boring in a game. After you waste time meandering around badly designed levels, it's just about killing. Lara's character is worse than the previous game. This is an Assassin's Creed clone and its just like a million other games. This isn't worth your time. I don't know how they made a worse game than the last one, but they did.… Expand

I spend entire gameplay sessions looking for stores and changing my character. The music is great. It consists of slightly ironic radio stations of all eras as well as dubstep. Its just fun shooting people with Robert Palmer or Aerosmith cranked up, playing a character that you personalized. I did not know the setting and upgrades your character would get. I was blown away by the plot. Its funny. I love the voice acting also. The roleplaying dialogue aspect could have been a bigger thing, but its okay since its basically an action game like GTA.
This game just has everything I loved from different games and movies: NFS car customization, RPG character creators, buying acessories like SSX3, fun vehicles like Time Splitters / GTA, insane cyberpunk plot and environment, retro & new music, silly kung fu and shooting combat, good graphics for the system. Lots of challenges to keep you moving. Instead of holding you back, the game gives you insane abilities within the first hour.
I haven't had this much fun playing a game since Time Splitters: Future perfect. I know this isn't directly comparable to that game, but it gives me the same vibe.
The gameplay isn't too complicated. I know they are basically milk runs sometimes, where you drive a car, or shoot a bunch of enemies, but I don't mind. I did like some of the "bosses."
I just love this game. One of the best on PS3.… Expand

YouThis is a passable "game." I like that it gets started right away and doesn't try to teach me stuff, or bore me with too many cutscenes. You walk in an open world, slash enemies, and collect quests / items. The character creator is limited to hairstyle, color, and class. There is some kind of over-arching battle between classes. Great audio and music and voice acting. The graphics are okay (not many lighting effects), with average character models (running in high heels? really?). You can't jump and the attacks really aren't action oriented. Its more like a PC game, but controls better than a point and click. I think I would have liked this more if you didn't collect so many quests before you finished a single one or knew where to go. The fighting is really basic. Its better than some games of the same type. Online players can join you. Its just alright. There just needs to be a higher challenge within the beginning. Good voice acting. It starts out kind of fun, then you get lost. If you like getting lost and wandering a map, then I'd play this. The action part of the game is not very strategic or difficult. I thought this would be more fun, but its just ok. I'd rather play Drakan on PS2 or Balder's Gate.… Expand

You blast monsters that are gigantic. It kind of reminds me of Dragon's Dogma, but SCIFI action instead. Its not too hard and the game puts online players to go along with you. The graphics are amazing! Better than PS4 artistry. I don't really care about the story, and some of the character faces seem same-y. The audio is fantastic. A real step above was taken to recording and mixing the audio. Capcom was on a role when they released this. This game isn't one where you care how deep it is. Its just fun. I don't know why people don't talk about this series more. This doesn't scare me, and get me in the gut like RE. I like the sense of scale and environments in this one. I wish more people talked about this game. Maybe not a classic in the purest sense, but it is an 8/10.… Expand

Space Harrier and Bonanza Brothers are both about a 7 in today's terms. Virtua Racer is an okay port. Golden Axe, Columns, & Monaco GP are the worst. I don't know how they managed to make worse versions of classic games by converting them. You should probably grab this game, but don't pay much, and don't plan on playing it forever. As far as Sega releases this is one of the worst Sega games I've ever put in my machine. I didn't experience any glitches, but a lot of the graphics and gameplay were not up to par for PS2 or not up to par for Sega Genesis standards. This is just a weird Sega collectable that doesn't cost much.… Expand

Some of the character materials and animations seem too close to VF4. But this is a good version of Virtua Fighter. This one installs to the PS3 and there is no online updates. The game just works. It has some cool customizations. I'm not sure if the AI mode is on here. The new characters are OK. This is a non-buggy fighting game with good graphics. To appreciate the game you must kind of dance against the A.I. and learn a few combos. Then it gets pretty fun. Its not a unbalanced fighter like MK and SF. This was the first 3d fighter and they did it justice through 5 versions, which is not true for other Sega games! I'm glad I picked this up. This is better than most of the free online fighters, and sword fighters. If you are a Sega fan or fighting fan, just pick this one up!… Expand

Its not finished, its difficult to install, missing damage, and needs a better track maker. Sometimes the graphics are bad. The gameplay is not an even challenge. Other than that its still Gran Turismo.
The updates are so huge, the Playstation 3 chokes on them and fails. Put a brand new game in and it does not work. Polyphony Digital doesn't have a system to manage its own updates without an online tutorial written in a forum. It took 2 full days to install the game; UNACCEPTABLE. Some people may run into more problems than others.
If You Get It Running:
This game is more focused on hyper-cars than any other. The insane top speeds are kind of fun and kind of fake. Cars outpace each other wildly in PP which causes a high learning curve. Its impossible to know which car is the best to pick. There no monster trucks or American classic racing. No 80s stock cars or sprint cars.
The reward system is skewed toward longer races. Trophy cars aren't awarded well because some races are too hard with almost no reward. The actual challenges aren't worth anyone's time because of the CR prizes are so small compared to Seasonal Events and Online Play. The difference in prices between the cars doesn't seem to have much logic.
Online: The Quick Match will often kick you out of the server. The online rules penalize you unfairly almost every time I race. If you happen to be turning in, and someone hits you behind, you get the penalty. If too many wheels fall out of the course, you get a penalty. Thankfully not all online races are this way. The Open Lobbies are sometimes fun, sometimes terrible. One time a user on the annoying mic, just started cursing out users who entered their room with the wrong car. People constantly criticize you if you are running a car they don't like, even if they didn't put a room filter on it. Most of the user tracks I played are ridiculous (hill climbs) or un-drivable. The Nascar tracks are really fun though.
Drift modes: This game doesn't drift well. You have to spend too much time getting your car set up perfectly.
Other things wrong with the game; The AI is not great. They sometimes ram you and never seem to coast through turns. You must redo the licensing again. You have to complete 20 races before going online. No drag strip? None. No tuning cars while driving. No drawing on cars. No real damage. Needs courtesy cars online.
The graphics are a shame. Some cars look like PS2. Some cars have a premium dashboard, but then I look back, and the rear view is not modeled! Silly.
The music and sound are another low point, with bad engine sounds and terrible music selection. The music is so terrible. Whatever happened to real artists, like Garbage? Or classical music.
There are some good things. They fixed the terrible menus and load times from GT 4 & 5. Its got a lot of unique content & cars that are in no other game.
There are a lot of sim racers now. I'm still waiting for what they promised in Gran Turismo 4: More Pontiacs, & damage models. Worth buying for cheap if you have a PS3, but I won't be completing the disc because of overall gameplay. They added more cars to the game, fixed the menus, but did not increase overall game quality. Its a stressful game to play when you don't have the exact right car to run online and its just unbalanced as an offline game. You are better off quitting the game early. This will take hours of time and I didn't find it as fun as previous racers that exist.
This game can get kind of addictive, but it has so many problems its sad. Its no wonder nobody can fully recommend the game.… Expand

Instead of getting hurt when you touch an enemy like old games, you just fight them with attacks. This game does have a lot of running and jumping, and use of the special moves is required to keep on. The boss battles are more complicated than anyting I've seen in the Genesis Era. Its also faster. Levels are long. The artwork is mostly great, but I have some critiques. I don't like the eyes on the character designs. It just reminds me of MLP (My Little Pony). I think some of the background pieces have annoying color pallette (Dreadnaught level.) I absolutely loved the enemies throughout the game which provided some challenge and each had their own AI and style. I loved all the bouncers and all the level gimmicks. I hope they invent new ones next time. The artwork is not perfect, especially the color pallette in the last level. But guess what I don't care, because I had so much fun playing this fast and challenging game. Its better than Sonic 3. The design was great, but I wouldn't say its perfect or classic like Sonic 1 or 2. But that's how much I liked it. I loved this game. Its almost perfect as you play through it. The levels are all done with care. Good music, but not classic music. Great unlockables and extras make it so you want to play the game more than once. There is a lot of work that went into this game. If even half of this effort could go onto work on Sonic Mania. Will definitely will buy Freedom Planet 2. Finally a good 2d platformer game came out that isn't what I'd classify as indie garbage. This is the real deal guys.… Expand
