Yes this is a from software game but what DS & BB did was give you a feeling of achievement and progress when overcoming those obstacles which is missing totally in this game. It feels like they deliberately made this game hard, punishing and not fulfilling. It just baffles me as to why they took this route when their other games where - despite the difficulty - well received and loved whereas this game will/is not. Yes there are people enjoying it and I'm happy for them. I've played easily over 800h in from's worlds and the games never felt undeserved except in defined areas/locals. This game however has a convoluted gameplay system, very hard to master/even grasp mechanics and enemies that just are not fun to play against. Yes you can master it but to what end? Just for the sake of it?
There is no reason to play through it again unless you want to platinum or show others how (get) "good" you are. No different builds but only different "prostetics".
I'm just disappointed in the final product because they could have made a(-nother) masterpiece yet focused too hard on difficulty than fun/feeling of overcoming obstacles.
In my opinion a game isn't good because it is hard. A game has to have some traits that define it other than the difficulty and overall has to be fun to be played. This game doesn't give me satisfaction (in killing enemies, bosses, progressing), it just drags on. Not worth it for me hope you like it.… Expand

Short answer: Yes. Could it have been better? Also yes.
- Three playable characters with different fighting styles.
- A somewhat cohesive story (for a DMC game it was good).
- Good graphics, mostly stable frames (60fps targeted).
- Good DMC-mechanics.
- Too short/not enough content: Bloody Palace (will be free) only available within two or more months / Later half of the game is stale in comparison to the first, lots of "backtracking" (doing the same things/areas in different perspectives) / Only three to four memorable bosses (unique/balanced/fun to fight) / Not enough weapon variety, combinations possible (exception is Dante, but even for him many skills from prior games (DMC3 & 4) are absent) - In short: lots of repetition for a good part of the game.
- Lowered skill-gap, more accessible but somewhat less responsive (this can be good but there are some gameplay decisions that stayed in the game that just bug (compared to earlier games)).
- Re-used assets from prior games (sometimes almost 1to1 taken). Sure it can be seen as fan-service but when they are that prominent (and also mostly the good part of the game) and the "new" features are not memorable, it shows.
- Long loading screens for everything you do (every menu you open from the title screen, every time you enter shops etc.) - very prominent and annoying.
- V may be a deviation from classic gameplay but the mechanics often don't work properly.
The game has 20 Missions where there some that are merely boss-rush modes (f.e. the last 3 missions). The first half of the game is very good and gets you going whereas the later part is repetition and (more) tedious.
Yet it feels and sounds like a proper DMC after the long wait and for fans it is definitely worth it. But beware that you may not get a DMC3 surprise. Yet a solid hack&slay adventure that warms your soul. It could have been more perfected though (more content, less repetition, more variety of bosses, more gameplay-polish).… Expand

The game has balancing flaws but is otherwise good yet already lacking in content (2v2?).

The ideas are neat yet there are a lot of people out there not playing for teams which makes this game just an exhausting version of other BR games. Graphics are ok, hit detection also... personally I don't get the praise this game gets. Yes it's free to play and can be fun. But it is not the game-changer a lot of reviews/critics make it out to be. Honestly I like Titanfall 2 better on the gameplay aspects (more responsive)...and the shield system is just abysmal.
Make your own decision it's free. I didn't like it.… Expand

In a game where the majority of players that have completed the game generally (only) once only stick around for the PVP part and this is the games biggest flaw. The hit detection on weapons itself is not good in itself (also in PVE when you are clearly out of reach but get hit/damaged nevertheless) but couple that with huges delays, roll-spamming you get a somewhat random system. Some may like it, you may get fun out of it, but it could be way better and it is flawed.… Expand

It has a intriguing story, an atmospheric world, a lot of things to do, good graphics and solid mechanics. Would it not be for the sometimes heavy RPG (and therefore "grinding") parts and also not for the very inconsistent difficulty this game would easily be a 10. Sadly because of this some enemy/boss encounters are a chore and drag down the experience. Unblockable attack patterns are the worst in any/hack and slay title.… Expand

The bad reputation is well deserved and has as to my experience nothing to do with loot boxes. Just play for more than one hour and you will experience one of the most frustrating single player games (when considering AAA games) ever. It may be by design but the enemies just won't get any less independently on how many of them (also captains) you slay. Look I like a challenge but this game is like an endless horde mode on some different maps sold as a full price game. And on top of that the enemies literally just SPAWN IN ON TOP OF YOU all the times when battling captains.
I'm really disappointed about those things in a game that could be lore rich (I don't even touch this subject because it has been covered before) and engaging but somehow I lose interest on the rest some hours in.… Expand
