Unfortunately most horror movieWhile I'm not a huge fan of horror movies, I can definitely appreciate their place in the film industry. Unfortunately most horror movie classics, such as the 1978 Halloween, get repetitive after the fifth sequel. However this movie didn't make me like I was watching the same slasher film it's a sequel to. It felt more like a homage to the defining moments of the other Halloween films (which there are plenty of callbacks to) and also managed to blend in modern film styles with that classic 70's horror vibe. Tense moments are accompanied by a perfect score again based on the original but given new life so that it didn't feel repetitive hearing certain cues again. Even the most minor of characters are given decent amounts of screen time before they are killed off, which gives more weight to them in the audience eyes. Michael still is a regular psychopath, but his movements suggest something uncanny about him. Especially during a five minute long-take where he stalks multiple people through a few home, uninterrupted by cuts. Only one story beat made little sense to me, or more it felt rushed and lost any potential. It did have a reason to happen, but still felt shoehorned in more than anything. This doesn't stop the film from being a perfect sequel/maybe reboot of the franchise in the modern age.… Expand

The technical specs are on par with many major film releases we receive nowadays so there's nothing new outstanding done in that department but none of it is bad or takes away from the viewing experience. The comedy only had me laughing occasionally and most of the dialog that is meant to be funny drags on far too long. I'm a sucker for sudden slapstick moments where are a character unexpectedly hurts themselves, but other than those moments the humor is nothing special. The tag premise itself though, while over the top, leads to some really moments throughout the movie that bring out the little kid in all of us. They are by far the best part of the movie, but they don't save it from being another bland modern comedy.… Expand
Average User Score: 6.2May 27, 2018Solo: A Star Wars Story is the first real Star Wars film to open up to an entirely different type of premise for the movie franchise. UnlikeSolo: A Star Wars Story is the first real Star Wars film to open up to an entirely different type of premise for the movie franchise. Unlike the original and new films, Solo is not about some huge war or battle that will change the fate of the galaxy forever no, it's about a small time thief and his new allies doing a job, and it works. The movie does what most other Star Wars films fail to do and that is stand independently without the other films to back it up. This helps possible newcomers to the series but also means the story and adventure isn't pulled in too many directions.
Most characters were interesting despite a few we didn't get to know too well, and well acted. The sound design and sets were amazing like any other Star Wars film and the trademark use of practical effects worked very well. The film balanced action and dialog well enough but there were some segments where characters simply made odd choices in what seemed to be a rushed scene simply done to not drag the movie's run time. That being said I felt that the movie's climax came almost too soon and was replaced with an unimportant segment that made sense just should've come earlier in the film.
Solo is not the average Star Wars film which works. Though it was fun for the time being I don't see myself re watching it over and over even as a Star Wars fan. Which is not the movie's fault as it didn't need an over the top space brawl at the end. It knew what story it wanted to tell and it told it well.… Expand
