However, the gameplay is very solid and enjoyable both alone and in a group and the missions are very well designed despite there not being enough of them. There's plenty missing from the division right now but it's a very solid base game that will only get better when the dlc hits. The obvious downside being it's going to be very costly if you want to get the whole experience the division has to offer.… Expand

the idea tank ran dry 3/4 games ago, so lets steal gimmicks and ideas from other games despite them not working half as well in COD's ridiculously simplistic, hand holding multiplayer environment and add them to our game. Then re-skin a few levels with the slightest of tweaks, add an extra number to the title and re-release the same game and charge top price for the privilege.
The last 3/4 iterations of the series should of been DLC at the prices they charge for their so called DLC. But i suppose you can't really blame them when they've got so many idiots that still willingly throw cash at them when prompted to.… Expand
Average User Score: 5.1Mar 24, 2015The now typical connection issues we've come to expect from a EA/Battlefield game at launch are here again despite what was a workable betaThe now typical connection issues we've come to expect from a EA/Battlefield game at launch are here again despite what was a workable beta giving false hope to many. that's been coupled with a truly diabolical spawning system which reaches laughable levels for modes such as TDM and renders those modes unplayable (this isn't an exaggeration, there's plenty of clips on youtube showing just how bad it is) Those two glaring issues currently makes it impossible to look beyond but there's a decent if nothing memorable game in there potentially and there's probably a good chance they'll patch it and make it playable later but in it's current state you simply can't give this game a score that sits anywhere above mediocre at best.
The single player i have to say is very very good, a welcome change to what is usually something that's just stuck on last minute nowadays in a multiplayer centric genre but single player is nowhere near long enough to save this game and make it a recommendable purchase,… Expand
Average User Score: 6.1Sep 11, 2014You can see from the start that some serious money has been spent on this game. With nice visuals, sounds and extremely solid gameplayYou can see from the start that some serious money has been spent on this game. With nice visuals, sounds and extremely solid gameplay mechanics but that's pretty much all that can be positively said about this game. The story is very repetitive, with the same missions carried out in different settings over and over. The length of the story is very short and there's really no incentive whatsoever to veer off the main story path and explore. There will be hidden caves with higher end enemies inside them. An obvious place to have some decent loot right? Nope. Nothing.
The Strike missions are in all fairness an enjoyable experience when played with friends, but the distinct lack of chat support makes it pointless trying to team up with other individuals. Not that you'll actually need to as on normal difficulty the game can be played with eyes closed. And on Hard difficulty only certain enemies are moderately tricky, sure the bosses will take a lot longer to down but there's little danger of dying.
The PVP aspect of the game has some potential with the very solid shooting mechanics. The map designs are by no means great and could do with some good verticality put into them but in the main they are decent layouts. However, any fun that may be had in the crucible is quickly sucked away by the inclusion of the super moves. I understand they are trying to add something different to the game but 1 hit kill moves that are practically impossible to fight against and obliterate everything on screen instantly are not the way to go about it. The 1 hit kill shotgun is vastly overpowered and is unanswerable in close quarters. Overall it's just an extremely unbalanced pvp multiplayer with limited maps and limited game modes. At the very least i'd expect a "hardcore" vanilla mode, with the option to play without the ridiculous super powers and perhaps the mini-map which negates any potential stealth approach to gameplay.
Overall, A well built game that seriously lacks any ideas other than go to point A defend against a horde then kill a boss and with terrible unbalanced pvp.… Expand

I've played through the campaign, it was playable but forgettable. At least it was playable up until you turn your system off or quit out and the game decides to delete your entire campaign save file. But lets make no mistake about it, battlefield is all about the multiplayer and i'm basing my review solely on that.
Why the hell is there no party system of any kind for christ sake? Bf3 party system wasn't great and caused numerous joining problems but at least it existed! why just remove something so vital completely? Won't moan about connection issues just yet as sadly it's now become inevitable the first month minimum of most games have major connection issues, it shouldn't be the case that people just accept it but i trust it will be sorted eventually!
Other stupid omissions from the game like not being able to quick search for a particular map or not being able to skip the full servers in the server browser make finding a game very tedious. Not being able to customise your loadout in the menu's, meaning you either do it via battlelog (I actually like battlelog in general and this feature in particular) or you do it in game and lose about half the game time customising instead of actually playing the game.
When you get past all that and manage to get into a game the gameplay is mainly standard battlefield, it's what we've come to expect and there isn't really much need for any core changes. However i've noticed a few cod-like gameplay tweaks sneaking in such as taking less bullets to dying, you're dead before you even realise you're being shot at and try to respond and the overhaul of the sniper class is dreadful, it just feels very very easy and overpowered now whereas in previous battlefield games the sniper class was something only good players could play effectively. They are small changes but have made the game considerably less skillful and enjoyable in my eyes.
Finally the maps. The levolution inclusion is a great innovative feature. I feel there;s only a few maps where it actually changes the way the map is played in any noticeable way but it bodes very well for future bf installments. The overall layout of the maps are fairly poor though. The conquest maps aren't too bad, there's a decent variety in there but most maps either feel too open or too enclosed with no middle ground. There are no maps that spring to mind as a potential battlefield classic but most are playable. When you switch to a smaller game mode however such as team deathmatch or domination the maps in general are fairly poorly designed, in particular floodzone is absolutely terrible.
Overall, there are a lot more things wrong with this game than there was with bf3. It's by no means a bad game but given the potential it's so far disappointing. Luckily, most of the issues are easily fixed so lets just hope Dice/EA get their fingers out of their arse's and do so soon.… Expand
