There was no way, no matter how much Spielberg flounce was imbued in this sprightly sequel, that it was going to be as good as the original. It isn't. By a long shot. But even two thirds of the way toward Jurassic Park is about a third better than your average buster of blocks.
The Lost World is a smoother, scarier ride than its predecessor, with twice as many dinosaurs twice as well designed eating twice as many people...But he's not particularly playful with his terrors here, and that's a disappointment coming from a filmmaker who can mix scares and laughs the way no one else ever has.
lst wrld was great action movie. maybe best squel like empire stirkes back. it feels two movie with city trex part. island feels more dinasour natural island compared to first movie you feel trvaling on island not just park. tension not get low no need to rest this kills thinking sience part of first movie but quality of dinos was here same and more.
The story (adapted by Spielberg and David Koepp from Michael Chrichton's "Lost World") isn't much better than "Jurassic Park." And the predictability factor is high.
For all the enhanced ingenuity of the special effects in The Lost World, the element of surprise and originality (the idea of cloning dinosaurs from fossilized DNA) is no longer present. And screenwriter David Koepp (the movie is very loosely based on Michael Crichton's sequel to his novel "Jurassic Park") has come up with a pretty conventional story line.
The biggest sequel of the summer has more dinosaurs, better special effects and more action than the original... But the inspiration is gone, and with it most of the fun.
Among the movie's many flaws are lackluster cinematography and leaden sound design. The Lost World also includes irritating little missteps in the plot.
Although it obviously has terrible script, the Steven Spielberg still can direct every on-screen images to look stunningly spectacle and impressively jaw-dropping like a real wizard of Hollywood!!
The overarching plot is fine about corporate exploitation and greed.
The movie falls foul of a lot of very silly contrived set pieces, but the little kids loved all the Dinosaur stuff.
During this week at work, I decided to listen to the Jurassic Park audio book. I very much enjoyed the experience, but was also annoyed at how different the book was from the movie. Because of that, I decided to revisit this legenadry franchise that was a very prominent part of my childhood. After watching and reviewing the first film, I decided to continue my adventure with The Lost World. This one has some interesting history, as Michael Crichton never intended to write another book, but after discovering they were going to make a second film, rushed to begin work on the next book.
Anyways, this movie was a massive let down. I recall enjoying this film as a child when it first came out, but after watching this film again decades later, it's pretty easy to see why this film wasn't very good.
Most of the characters are dull and uninspired, I didn't feel like I cared about them or what happened to them. Further, while Jurassic Park should be about dinosaurs first and foremost, this film tends to focus on the poachers and ecological issues more so than the dinosaurs themselves. Talking about dinosaurs, it just doesn't feel like there's enough variety, we see a small handful of them, but the major focus is on the t-rex and it's family. The story really focuses just on the t-rex's baby itself. There are scenes that simply last far too long for their own good. The one that stands out the most is the cliff scene where our protagonists are facing a life and death situation, this drags on FOREVER and I found myself finally saying, "We get it! Move on!" and fastforwarding through the scene.
There's plenty of spots like this in the film and it makes it really boring.
This is an ugly mess. It **** the charm and beauty of the first one. Bad writing and bad acting from some actors. Could have been the best dark sequel, but failed.
