Meyers seems capable of creating chemistry and having quality chats with anyone, from riding the wild waves of Kanye West to spinning a funny anecdote with pal Brad Paisley about accidentally stealing a Porsche. A talk-show host good at talking? Fancy that.
As always, you can't judge a late-night host by a first show. But Meyers' debut indicates that his blend of intelligence and goofy humor will be a welcome addition to the crowded late-night neighborhood.
I like Seth. He was funny on SNL. I tend to agree with his views, so this critique is not political. It's purely about comedy.
Looking back on past "Late Night" hosts David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, and Jimmy Fallon, their shows all had a lot more energy. I feel like Seth is just doing "Weekend Update" with a few interviews. He does his monologue behind his desk, and then he stays there for "A Closer Look." Look at what James Corden is doing in the **** much more energy and fun! Corden still does some great political humor, but it's not the whole show. Dave and Conan in particular were great innovators, and Jimmy did a few innovative things. But I don't see Seth doing anything that I would call cutting-edge. That's the spirit of "Late Night," to experiment with edgy comedy. Letterman covered himself in Alka-Seltzer tablets and was immersed in a tank of water. Conan performed elaborate, weird in-studio sketches with actors and costumes as well as plenty of remote segments. Jimmy Fallon played all kinds of games on-air with guests, created Brian Williams raps from news clips, and recreated music videos with Paul Rudd.
I hope Seth can turn it around, but he needs to be more adventurous. It has been seven years. How much longer will it take?
I turned on Seth Meyers this evening to get a bit of Intel on pop-culture and listen to him ranting for eight straight minutes about Trump and Fox News and a number of more conservative members of the media. He was spewing hateful comments and completely in balance views. Move on already, And stop being such an incredible hypocrite. People like you that spread negative one-sided views and hatred publicly And there are so many better things to be talking about should be ashamed.
The monologue was the sharpest part of Meyers’ first hour on the air (a departure from Fallon, whose monologue has never been his strength)–brisk, punctuated with self-deprecation, and wide-rangingly topical.... The distinguishing thing about the first night of Seth Meyers, in other words, was Seth Meyers, and the hour dropped little hints about how his personality and interests might shape the show.
Meyers is likable and pleasant, and the first show probably isn't a good indication of what his Late Night will eventually be like. In the early going, though, there isn't much fresh happening there.
Virtually nothing about this latest Late Night exhibited a whiff of freshness or originality.... On the plus side, Meyers came across as relaxed and loose, riffing on his show’s micro-budget and acknowledging the jokes that fell flat. The writing, however, simply wasn’t that strong.
He wants to come off as witty and clever so badly, but fails miserably. By far the worst late night host in the history of late night television. The only use for this show I can see is it’ll put you to sleep on a sleepless night
Seth Meyers **** all he has is trump jokes and they are getting old i hate seth Meyers he is very annoying and obnoxious it's time for this loser to be replaced already. seriously noone likes him even people who don't like the president are sick of his trump jokes i swear it's like seth is purposefully makeing himself out to be a loser pls for the love of god replace this moron with a better show
I am so sick of this **** Lol. if You’re reading this you already know what I’m getting at. It’s too exhausting to even get a start at... but i will say it’s humorous in 2019 to watch Trump’s America get a start with these media fueled comedians digging themselves down into a grave. Let’s gooooo.
