If you're looking for a graphical powerhouse, you should buy something else, but Overclocked is something unique in the 3DS field: a deep adventure lasting dozens of hours. It's a great example of its genre, and even those that played it before have enough to pull them back in.

I have a bit of nostalgia towards Devil Survivor Overclocked, as it was one of my first 3DS games, so I might have a bit of bias here with my review. But Devil Survivor is a definite top entry into the plethora of JRPG's that the 3DS had. SMT always has excellent world building in its games, and Devil Survivor is no exception. The soundtrack is one of the best in SMT's entirety. While some people will negatively dock points for either the shift to SRPG, or the overabundance of grinding (which you can use as a knock towards any RPG, btw), Devil Survivor's gameplay is an excellent evolution to the SMT formula, where each summoner has a small team of demons that can assist them. The difficulty is challenging, but not in an unfair way. Devil Survivor Overclocked is a great JRPG, and would have been a front runner for best 3DS RPG if not for FE Awakening.
Plagued by tactic battles with not enough options for tactics. The story is strong, though, and in the end that is what keeps everything together. [Aug 2013]
If you already own or played the DS version, this may not be the reboot you were hoping for. For those coming to the title with a fresh face however, prepare to be impressed.
As far as ports go, Overclocked is a little light on content, and as good as the voice acting addition is, I don't think it's a big enough change to warrant a second buy.
In theory Overclocked is a successful remake of one of the DS’ grand role-playing games. Unfortunately preventable technical glitches like regular freezes and occasional crashes take a lot away from its’ theoretically well deserved glory.
The best story in the entire Shin Megami Tensei franchise. Gameplay is solid, characters are great, difficulty is there, and soundtrack is good. Where the game really shines though is it's incredibly realistic portrayal of an apocalypse, with a demon-y spin! Seeing the struggles and conflicts overcome by the cast change their attitudes and alignments individually is such a treat. The story's conclusion, regardless of whom you side with, is always phenomenal. The 3ds re-release (overclocked) added an 8th day to the story for multiple routes, and two words: peak-fiction. I got the king of demons ending in my first playthrough and just... chills.
Compared to other SMT games, this has quite a bit of a different play style. Take away the random encounters, demon negotiating, equipment, items and even the good ol' dungeon crawler aspect... And you have Devil Survivor. It's an SRPG that takes away from what SMT is all about, by not only removing core gameplay mechanics, but also making grinding much, much more easy. This game also has extremely broken skills, as you can beat the hell out of nearly everything by using the Kishin and Vile demons as companions. Although if I take my mind off of the SMT series, and think of this as a stand alone game, it's a decent play. It can be quite difficult if you are not paying attention to your skills and are not exploiting enemy weaknesses. The game concentrates on character development and does a good job at evoking emotions to certain characters (The game successfully made me want to strangle Midori). The game has multiple ends which pertain to the three main alignments (Chaotic, Neutral and Lawful). And the plot does a great job of keeping you entertained.
It's cool game, like SMT games usually are, however title itself isn't in 3D and content added to original version isn't apparently that useful, which takes my grade down as release is kinda disappointing, game content is gr8 tho.
This game is not in 3D! There is a great 3D animated intro, but after that the game pretty much takes place on the bottom screen. I am a huge Shin Megami fan, and skipped the DS version of Devil Survivor, so the new version was one of the reasons I bought a 3DS. The game itself plays like all the other SMT games, collecting/fusing demons, with the added element of grid based srpg battles where when you do face your enemy, the battle plays out like any other SMT game. The game itself is on par with the other SMT games, and more animated than Strange Journey, so if 3D is no big deal and you just need a good jrpg, you will be very happy with this title.
The biggest disappointment is that this is a remake **** that just came out a couple years ago, on a new system that is selling itself on new technology (3D), and wasn't remade to take advantage of that technology. Ghost Recon did an amazing job of taking the standard SRPG grid and turning it into 3D eye candy and that was a launch game! This game was delayed a few months after the original release date, so I was at least expecting something similar. This is the most disappointed I've been with Atlus ever.
You're better off getting the DS version as it's basically a direct port and the lack of 3d (Save for the demon fusing and other small 3d bits) doesn't make it worth getting. only reason i'd suggest trying it is if you loved this game on the DS and want that 1 extra day. past that, the game is a decent tactical rpg. the characters feel fleshed out well enough and the voice acting wasn't ear-bleedingly awful. the graphics are pretty much the same as the DS copy. in all seriousness, this game should have been passed by or at the very least given an overhaul. Altus, i would think, is getting lazy with this one. save your money, get the DS version... you'll get (almost) the exact same experience but you'll be saving money and telling companies like Altus to not be lazy gits and actually give us some actual 3d for a 3d game.
SummaryExpanded and enhanced, Devil Survivor Overclocked for Nintendo 3DS builds upon the game's original release with the addition of voice acting for the entirety of the game's lengthy, unconventional narrative. Moreover, that very story, already boasting multiple endings based on critical decisions by the player, now concludes with a specia...
