There's some serious challenge to the game if you take the time to find it, and that holds true with the 3DS version as well. Also, the game is well suited to portable play, as each mission only takes about 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

The game's been completely rebuilt from the ground up, yet stays ineffably faithful to the original.

Star Fox 64 was a phenomenal game and it's even better the second time around. This is the definitive version of one of the most important games of a generation. You absolutely need this game if you have a 3DS, and if you don't have one, this game is genuinely good enough to justify looking into rectifying that. Get it. Immediately.
  4. One of the best action games ever is now even better. Absolutely essential. [Sept 2011, p.83]

The game shines again, as did 14 years ago, combining the nostalgia with modernity.

A brilliant remake, Star Fox 64 3D sports all the fun and fast-paced action of the original with an excellent visual redesign and only a few minor drawbacks.

Star Fox 64 3D is the best version of the title we've seen on Nintendo 64. Its fast paced action and a perfectly balanced rhythm provide an experience which today is as good as it was years ago, not having suffered at all from the action of time. Extraordinary in its gameplay, the title still remains a masterpiece.

It's a short game, but it's built to be played many times and still be hugely enjoyable every single playthough.

A nice remake, similar to what was done with Ocarina of Time 3D, to fulfill the desires of players who never had a chance to experience the original on the N64. If the challenges may appear short at first, with the multiple branching in the "Adventure mode" and other new and different modes of play, most notably the scoring one, there is plenty to be done. Despite some shortcomings, it's a nicely polished title.

StarFox 64 3D reminds us why we've been begging Nintendo for a proper sequel for nearly 15 years.

This impressive remake of Star Fox 64 manages to improve upon the original without compromising the magic that made it so memorable to begin with. It's too bad the multiplayer doesn't support online, because otherwise it's the perfect remake of this classic title.

Lots of unlocks for extra features, and some of the best level design ever seen makes this game infinitely replayable. A perfect score is tarnished here by a lackluster multiplayer option.

Ultimately this is a solid, although quick, flight down memory lane. If you're new, then welcome to the world of Lylat Wars 64 (Sorry, Star Fox 64), and if you're an Arwing veteran, it's time to relive the experience again. Definitely well worth the purchase.

The re-incarnation of Nintendo's classic action shooter delivers more than a satisfying experience, using the tried-and-true formula of the original and implementing some superb 3D effects.

It lacks the scale and scope of Nintendo's other big N64 remake, but it's arguably a more compelling experience for shmup junkies like myself. The game is constant action with no filler; just constant dog fighting and high-flying arial maneuvers, with a bit of jaw-flapping, Muppet-y fun layered on top.

Moments of brilliance, moments of frustration, and masses of replay value. They don't make them like this any more - they remake them.

I wouldn't say I'm disappointed with Star Fox 64 3D, and it will prove to be one of the few must-haves at this point in the 3DS lifecycle, but for purists like me, there's something missing. I wouldn't trade the portability for the world, but there's still some ghostly reason to pull out the Nintendo 64 and play the game as it was originally released.

This remake might not be the AAA first-party killer app the 3DS needs, but it's a solid piece of nostalgia for longtime fans and an exceptionally strong shooter for newcomers to the series.

Overall I have to give credit to the big 'N' for not just cashing in on another storied franchise as they have reworked it for fans of the original while giving those new to the franchise a fresh and exciting game to play.

A great makeover of the N64 original Everything else is just the same, short campain but good fun to be enjoyed. 3DS controls don't add much to the experience, but at least they are well implemented.

The only thing keeping Star Fox 64 3D from being a slam dunk recommendation is the amount of gameplay that you're getting for the game's 40 dollar price tag.

Even fourteen years after its first release fast and variable space action Star Fox 64 remains one of the best rail shooters and the 3rd dimension fortunately doesn't ruin its original playability. [Oct 2011]

The graphics are beautiful, the 3D effect is very well implemented and the Arcade Mode is a good addition. Good, albeit a bit short, space action for your spare time.

Despite the lack of supplements, Star Fox 64 still remains one of Nintendo's finest and most action-packed experiences; No two stages are alike, and the amount of alternate pathways and outcomes (like an ally from one stage coming to assist you in the next) allow for much replaying and experimenting for those who haven't mastered every nook and cranny.

There can be no doubting he pleasure in revisiting the wonders of gaming past, and Starfox 64 3D still stands today as a beacon of impeccable design, but at this present moment the 3DS's balance seems too heavily skewed towards looking back, retromania over reinvention. On the other hand, this is a superb package, and a robust reminder of just what the 3DS is capable of. Starfox 64 3D, then: it's the console's second-best game, just behind Ocarina Of Time 3D.

The graphics are totally new and look sharp and provide some good looking effects. The analog controls are smooth and the gyro is fun (albeit not something I use often). And, most importantly, it is just plain enjoyable. It provides a good, solid challenge and huge amounts of replay value, and although it unfortunately lacks online play, the local play is fair fun if you have some friends with a 3ds (not to mention it's download play!). I highly recommend this game to any 3ds owner. Full Review »
