Critic score distribution:
  1. Positive: 3 out of 17
  2. Negative: 1 out of 17
  1. You can quite easily play through the entire game in under 10 minutes.
  2. Its weak event lineup will leave it in a prime spot to be overcome once "International Track and Field" enters the competition.
  3. Unfortunately, the experience is horribly marred by a complete lack of replay value, which makes Virtua Athlete almost too short to qualify even as a rental.
  4. There is definitely a good foundation here but with average graphics, mediocre gameplay and a lack of depth this title stays behind the pack.
  5. The included events -- Long Jump, High Jump, 110M Hurdles, 100M Dash, Shot Put, Javelin Throw and 1500M Run -- all involve the same control scheme. Each is equally frustrating.
  6. At it's heart the gameplay of Virtua Athlete is really nothing more than a series of button timings.
  7. While the visuals are decent, Virtua Athlete 2000 is little more than a rehashed version of "Decathlete" for the Saturn, with little replay value, originality, or depth.
  8. 70
There really should be a full ten decathlon events in the game; seven leaves you feeling hungry for more variety.
  9. Just too limited in its scope for the long haul. What is here is certainly enjoyable.
  10. After a while, your thumbs and hands get tired along with your patience.
  11. 68
Beyond an hour's playing it looks grim.
  12. Short, and I mean really short gameplay. With only seven events, the party's over before it even gets started.
  13. Rent it out along with a six-pack and some mates some time, but I wouldn't recommend buying it.
