If you don't play Kirby Super Star Ultra, you're missing a great game. It looks great, it plays great, and there's lots of variety. What more could you want?
Kirby Super Star Ultra is a perfect example of how to update a game. With its improved visuals, added cinematics, additional single-player content, new twists on the original's gameplay, and a competent multiplayer aspect Ultra delivers an excellent and modernized remake of a classic title.
For all of my life, this has always been my favorite video game. Even after revisiting it, Kirby Super Star Ultra stands the test of time. It takes everything great about the original Kirby Super Star, adds some new sub-games that enhance the experience, and gives the graphics and soundtrack a significant boost. The original sub-games are left nearly intact, with some minor changes added to make the game more accessible. This helps with newcomers who want to get into the game, and completionists who want to keep track of all of the treasures in The Great Cave Offensive sub-game. As for the new sub-games, they feature harder rematches with the bosses from Spring Breeze. Including a revamped fight with King Dedede at his most desperate, becoming Masked Dedede. There's a "what if" scenario where you get to play as Meta Knight. There's even the True Arena, where you have to fight all of the bosses from the new sub-games. Even a secret final boss awaits you at the end. The graphics are enhanced to fit the DS' style and limitations, yet also mesh together to make absolute eye-candy. The soundtrack is also revamped and even gets some new songs to include in levels and bosses. This even includes pre-existing bosses since Dyna Blade, Wham Bam Rock, and Heavy Lobster get new themes instead of the standard boss theme. Most importantly, Super Star Ultra serves as the point where the Kirby franchise had entered a true renaissance. This is the first game in the series that was directed by Shinya Kumazaki. He made sure that nothing was removed or compromised for the sake of the people who loved Kirby Super Star. He also included aspects to make the game more accessible by adding optional tutorials, and dropping the difficulty in areas that needed it. Kumazaki went on to direct the rest of the modern Kirby titles and has been keeping the franchise successful through the years. Kirby Super Star Ultra is not only the perfect example on how to remake a game, but a major change in direction the Kirby series definitely benefits from.
To sum this is a platform certainly valid and worthy of being played by both fans of the genre, both by novice players. You take away those who want the challenge at all costs and who does not love the game particularly colorful and sugary. It will not be original as Kirby: Power Paintbrush, but the fun is guaranteed.
The low challenge means the title has a relatively low lifespan, but you can get a solid week or so out of chasing down all the treasures and playing the minigames.
Despite a great presentation and being simply is fun to play, it's disappointing that even over 10 years, something hasn't been developed to rival its position as one of the best Kirby titles ever, especially when this could of been it instead.
Copying enemy abilities and working alongside helper characters is cool, and we dig the imaginative environments, but there's not enough to keep us hooked.
Definetly one of my favourite platformers I ever played. Again copy abilities in Kirby series always would be great idea. This is game not just remake, but also addes something new like for example you can even play as Meta Knight. Graphic and music obviosly really great as always. If you like platformers, than I think you definetly should play and try this game!
This game was great. I never heard about the original game until the year this game came out. I say the game play is great and smooth. I think the best part about the game is that there are alot of small games packaged rather than it being one big game but that's masahero for you. My favorite games on there is meta knight's revenge and milkey way wishes. Lastly as a remake, it was great because of more games, better graphics, sometimes better music, and better enemy placement I believe.
It's a pretty decent game not too bad but there isn't much there's like five classic games in one and the first three are super easy and short, and then there's a treasure hunter like game which you can mess up on a lot, but overall an okay game its still pretty fun just easy and short.
Kirby Super Star Ultra takes what is widely considered the best Kirby game and gives it a face lift and even more modes to play than the original had. This is one Kirby game that will not disappoint any in terms of length. The partner system is unnecessary and makes the game even easier. Just the same, it is appreciated for its two player capability. With a wide variety of powers and multiple ways to use each, it is easy to forgive the game for erring on the easy side of things.
