  1. The truly sad part is that Lock's Quest is just a few design tweaks away from being a fantastic game. All the ingredients are here, but the overzealous chefs at 5th Cell screwed up the recipe.

Fun but flawed, Lock's Quest takes real-time strategy into character-based adventure territory with stylus-controlled precision. [Nov 2008, p.102]
  3. It probably won't finish on many best-of-the-year lists, but if our experience is anything to go by then Lock's Quest will live long in any DS cartridge slot.
  4. Hugely ambitious and quietly innovative - only a few rough edges stop this short of potential all-time classic status.
  5. In fact, it's easy to see general casual gamers get into Lock's Quest, with its accessible learning curve and 'brain training' wall-building strategy.
  6. Plan, build, fight and repair. Those are the four fundamental parts of Lock's Quest, an unexpectedly demanding game for the DS. It's surprisingly addictive, but due to some parts of the game not being blessed with the coat of finish they need we can't bless this game with a higher grade.
  7. Alongside the single-player campaign, there's an entertaining multi-player mode that enables two people to build armies and defences and go to war. Whilst this is only local play, it does mean that Lock's Quest makes a more worthy addition to your DS collection.

It's harder than most, if not, all it's DS genre peers. The difficulty is brought about by battle and strategy itself and not by level gaps, equipment or other factors of that sort. I pray for a sequel with more polished movement (the "slippery" movement is a bit annoying), improved animation, and a deeper, much more engrossing storyline. Full Review »
